Me and my husband were staying on the island and our hotel recommended this restaurant. we weren't quite sure what to choose so went for the sushi set meal - we ended up being really sad we hadn't chosen one of the set meal options as the food was outstanding as was the Miyajima beer. The sea bream head soup... More

I had the full oyster meal. Definitely one for foodies. Start with four European style fresh oysters - with Japanese flavourings - then on to grilled oysters, battered fried oysters, oysters with rice and vegetables, oysters in a tofu and onion soup - you name it - every way the innovative Japanese serve oysters. Great with the white wine they... More

This is a traditional Japanese Ryokan, so it involved sleeping on the floor and complying with old Japanese traditions, its owner Shinko - san is a delight. She was so helpful as we were European tourists starting a holiday in Japan. The tips and guidance she gave concerning the food helped us for the rest of our holiday. Now our... More

We recently stayed 2 nights in Miyajima, giving us time to hike up to the great view above the town and also to visit Hiroshima by ferry. Yamaichi Bekkan was the perfect ryokan to be based and we had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was spacious with a compact ensuite and a pleasant view. The owners, Shinko and her... More

Excellent greeting from owner and son after ferry delay. Very large Japanese style room with private bath/shower. Sleep on futon on floor - surprising comfortable. Bean pillows - not so comfortable. Low tea table We had breakfast (western style available) and evening meal in the ryokan- on the whole very good although some dishes not to our taste (eel, I'm... More

We stayed for two nights and were treated like we we very special guests. Our room was a very large traditional style. There was a small refrigerator and of course a electric tea pot. The owner made sure our every need was met. They prepared beautiful breakfasts for us each morning. My daughter had special dietary issues and they were... More

I stayed for one night at Yamaichi Bekkan in a Japanese style room. The host was very kind, and the hotel is easy to find. Right when you step off the ferry it is visible. I dropped my things off and hiked Mt. Misen, and ate a lot of food throughout the town. There isn't a ton to do in... More

Staying at Yamaichi Bekkan reminded me a lot of staying with family. The building itself is humble I. It's appointments, being clean, modest, with wifi and a mix of western or traditional Japanese style rooms. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which specialises in eel and oysters, the basis of Miyajami's culinary style, and the food we sampled... More

We spent 2 weeks travelling around Japan and this was by far the best place that we visited and stayed in. We stayed in the Japanese styled room which was a lovely experience. The owner was very welcoming and went out of her way to look after us for the night that we were there. The Sushi dinner that we... More

This family run hotel/Bekkan was one of our favourite places to stay in Japan. The mother and son who run it are extremely simpatico and helpful. We opted to stay on the island to see what it's like after most of the tourists have left, and it was magical. The room itself has tatami mats and futons on the floor,... More
