Like many others, we found leaving the Sundown a challenge, staying a week longer than planned. The location, about 30 minutes walk from town, was perfect as we felt like we had the whole beach to ourselves. The Spanish classes were great, and good surfing was possible practically all day, right outside our door. The shared kitchen facilities were excellent,... More

Pros: - Far from main town so a nice quiet beach all to yourselves - Basic but nice rooms - get the upstairs ones for a little more and watch the beach all day long - Really friendly owner Juan-Carlos and family. Do their best to make you feel at home. - Ping pong table, hammocks, BBQ, kitchen - rooms... More

We were supposed to stay here for 4 weeks but ended up staying more than 5. The family that run the place are lovely and there is a nice friendly feel to the place. If they are celebrating something then everyone is invited to join in, which happened a few times during our stay. The kitchen has pretty much what... More

We came for one week's intensive Spanish lessons and felt so at home we stayed for three weeks (it took us three attempts to leave - sorry Max!) and we wish it could have been longer. The communal kitchen and games area really lends itself to the feel of an extended family (minus the arguments!). The recently installed barbecue helps... More

This quiet gem has many great attributes but the most out standing would be the service. Juan Carlos and Mary Elena have got it going on! I have worked in five diamond hotels in Canada and New Zealand and have never come across such genuine hospitality! These folks are the real deal, whether is was the immediate beer offerings when... This Hotel is located about a 10 minute walk outside of Canoa. The Beach is quiet and kept clean. The hammocks outside are ideal for reading..or having a few afternoon drinks. We stayed at the Sundown Hotel for about 10 days in February. We had planned on 6 days and then head up the coast. Well that didn't happen! It was so lovely there we couldn't leave. We took a week of Spanish lessons with Louis who I totally recommend. The owners were awesome-Juan Carlos and Mary Elena! They always try... More

We had a fantastic experience at the Sundown Beach Hotel. Situated on a beautiful sparsely populated beach with fantastic beach combing of shells and sand dollars. The grounds were kept very nice and clean. The covered hammocks on the beach and then again in the mid section of the property beckon you to sit in them and read a good... More
