Last summer, I went to Khoone Geli along with my friends. It was a wonderful guesthouse in the middle of a lovely tranquil garden. In addition to all this, being with Farzin took the experience of the trip to a whole new level. If you choose to sojourn at this guesthouse, its memory will remain an unforgettable one.

In a trip of many fabulous experiences, staying at Khoonegeli was the absolute highlight of my three and a half weeks in Iran. A traditional mudbrick house in the north of Iran, Khoonegeli, built by Farzin Malaki and his wife, Alejandra, is about 15km southwest of Tonekabon and close to the foothills of the Alborz mountains. I arrived in early...

the super beautiful house is constructed in an old traditional way and makes with its nice interior design a cozy stay for you. service is very friendly and helpful. They cook excellent and keep the house super clean. a highlight is the balcony on the upper floor where you sit above the orange trees. there is a huge green garden....

Farzin is an interesting man and a very hospitable host. He and his family have an amazing guesthouse in a part of Iran You should definitely visit. Even if its only, like us, for a very short time. A trek was organized through the mountains, complete with homestay and guide. After such an exhausting day it was great to just...

We booked a hike in the Alamut valley/Alborz mountains via Caspian Treks, which is has the same owner (Farzin) as Khoone Geli. We booked the hike to a summit (Kalooha) in the Alamut valley with 4 experienced hikers. We want to underline that all 4 of us are experienced hikers, and all of us did multiple hikes all over the...

Thank you for your comment Rob. This is the second time this has happened in the season and interestingly both parties have been from the same European country with similar experiences elsewhere. I think a pattern is emerging whereby ordinary tourists who are used to hiking in countries where an infrastructure is well established for guided and self guided hikes...

Our stay with Farzin and his family at Khoone Geli was the absolute highlight of our three weeks in Iran. We arrived at Khoone Geli after an unforgetable trekking in the northern mountains perfectly organised by Farzin. The top cuisine food, the secluded orange tree garden, the lovely house and our room with balcony offered a perfect contrast to the...

We had an exceptional time staying with Farzin for two nights at Khoone Geli. Khoone Geli is a beautiful, traditional home with delightful interiors - we felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. The highlight of our stay was the delicious local food we were able to sample at each meal, where Farzin often joined us and explained the origins...

I visited Khoonegeli with a friend. Farzin, the owner, was a great host and very prompt with communication. We were a little hesitant to stay there in the beginning because the location seemed remote and we weren't sure whether we would be able to find it easily. But we reached Tonekabon by an overnight bus from Esfahan without any problem...

KhooneGeli, Owner at Khoone Geli, responded to this review

Thank you Dr Kenneth Koo for taking time to write such a comprehensive and balanced review. I would like to point out to any potential future guests that: In Iran there is a north-south divide in terms of cost of living. Central Caspian coastal cities such as Tonekabon and Ramsar being some of the most expensive in the whole country....

Last week we spent 3 wonderful nights in the splendid "khoone Geli". Everything was great. We slept upstairs in the main house, which was beautifully decorated, with a nice view of the orange garden and the snowy picks of "Alborz chain" and a very great balcony, that we had our breakfast and lunch in it. We really liked the natural...
