A wonderful and warm welcome by the staff of this lovely restaurant. Tasteful decor, great atmosphere, amazing food, beautifully presented and discreet but attentive service.

A valentines meal of excellent quality and no feeling of being commercially ripped off because it was Valentines....and ww came away with the flower arrangement from our tavle as a gift.

Stopped off here impromptu after liking the sound of the name. Pulled off the motorway and a very kind french guy advised us of this hotel and took us to it. It is actually easy to locate, and only a short walk to to the town centre, has private and secure parking and very easy to get back onto the motorway.
Very friendly owners. We had one of the cheaper rooms that hadn't been refurbed but it was more than adequate and spotlessly clean. The owner advised that all the rooms will be refurbed by next year.
Would definitely stop here again and have no hesitation to recommend. We ate breakfast at the hotel which we don't generally do but as she were hitting the motorway it was more convenient on this occasion.. Normal continental breakfast with the usual coissants, bread, jams, cereals and coffee for 7 euros. All in all a very pleasant stay.

We stayed two nights at La Goule Beneze and can highly recommend it. Cathy who runs it is charming and will do her best to let you speak French no matter how bad you are!
The rooms are comfortable and clean. We had a room at the back with a shower and thought it great value for money. The only thing missing was a hair dryer which would have been useful with teenage daughters. The food was excellent and the service friendly and efficient, despite the Sunday night being very busy in the restaurant. There is a small terrace which you can sit out on during the day and Cathy will bring very reasonably priced drinks. It is good stop over point for anyone travelling further down to the South West and only a day trip to La Rochelle. However the town itself is very pretty and worth a look round.

I have been very loathe to post this review, but it has been praying on my mind for months. My family and I had an evening meal at this hotel in August 2014, because it was recommended by the owner of the gite that we were renting. My daughter and I ordered carpaccio of beef, which we expected to be raw, but were served thin slices that resembled grey cooked beef, that you can buy in inferior English supermarkets. Being English , without a great command of French, we didn't say anything. We had both ordered steak as a main course, and were amazed to find that it was almost impossible to cut the meat, because it was so tough. We both, once again, initially didn't complain, but when we gave up trying to cut the steak, the landlady asked if anything was wrong. We explained, and were very disappointed when she said that she couldn't do anything, as we had eaten some of the meat. In future, we will not accept situations like this, and complain immediately if something is wrong. Sometimes the English are too reticent in these matters.

We stayed at La Goule Beneze in mid June 2006 and found it a really enjoyable experience. The hotel has recently been taken over by a young, enthusiastic couple Catherine & Dominique who both speak English and make guests feel really welcome. Dominique is the chef and his meals are superb - do try the strawberry & mint soup!
Saint Jean d'Angely is a very pleasant town and a good touring base for the Charente region. Highly recommended.

It's been a while since we have toured in France and La Goule Beneze reminded us of what we would look forward to, a small family-run hotel with an excellent restaurant. The rooms were basic but comfortable and nicely decorated. We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant and it was reassuring to find that the vast majority of diners were French - it can be a bit depressing when all the diners in a restaurant in France are British! Very good breakfast as well and the proprietress was incredibly friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

We have just spent five nights at Le Goule Benez. It is a very nice small unpretentious hotel which I heartily recommend. Clean, tidy, well maintained with a good restaurant and best of all a a very warm and cheerful welcome. Ideal for a stopover or a longer stay.
Merci Le Goule Beneze pour les cinq nuits chez vous. Un hotel en tres bon etat, avec un bon petit restaurant, chambres comfortable et in accueuil fantastique.

We were made to feel very welcome by the English speaking owners. Good off street car parking and modern room facilities. Very comfortable bed. We dined in the restaurant in the evening and our meal was excellent. Great place to stopover en route the Dordogne.
