I arrived at the hotel about 3pm and the host asked if I wanted lunch. Although they had finished serving they would get something for me. I said just something very light. 10 minutes later I’m sat in front of a palm leaf that they started to fill with dall, raita, spiced potato, mango, rice, curry and chicken in a...

We only had one night here but what a night!. Arrived for the fabled lunch served on a banana leaf and it was sensational. Beautiful fish, lovely mango, tasty rice, chicken with a bite. Every morsel lovingly cooked and prepared. Attended by friendly waiters who were ever ready with second helpings, most welcome after a tiring journey. Our room was...

We had seen reviews and went here for lunch after a disappointing trip to Kanadukathan Palace and to the 1000 Windows Palace (both were closed, for long we were told) and were pleasantly greeted by the hostesses Annapurna and Mrs. Joseph. We were told that the fixed menu non-veg (1000/-) would be ready in an hour and were sent off...

Our second stay here in 5 years and it was as good if not better this time. Gorgeous antique furniture, lovely staff, excellent food and service. Feels like you are in colonial times in India. Would not stay anywhere else, it's worth the extra money to stay here.

BANGALA in Tamil means ''Bunglaw'' - it is in fact a renovated old Chettinad residential property which has been modified to be transformed into a hotel cum restaurant. In the restaurant there is no option for menu options to choose as every day they prepare Chettinad meals as per their choice & these are served to the guests as fixed...

Awesome premium property. Very well maintained. Owner and staff take a great deal of pride in the establishment. Hotel is in a relatively quiet and secluded section of a busy neighborhood. Truly a place to unwind and relax.

Meenakshi, the owner of the Bangala makes every effort to make sure your stay is perfect, from welcoming you as you arrive to ensuring the kitchen tailors its food to your tastes. She's an astonishing powerhouse, knowledgable, charming and hospitable, especially as she's in her eighties now. Rooms are simple but nicely furnished and spotlessly clean, bathrooms ditto. AC and...

The Bangala is a beautiful heritage hotel that was formerly a home. The rooms are lovely. The garden is serene. The staff and owner are delightful. A cooking demonstration provided insight into Chattier food and spices. Be sure to order the hotel's cookbook. It is a treasure of South indian cuisine - The Bangala Table

The Bangala is a heritage hotel in Karaikudi, the heart of Chettinad. Now in its 12th year, it is renowned for its local cuisine and warm hospitality. All rooms are air conditioned and with attached bathrooms. Amenities include a swimming pool, gym, massage center , library, cycling, etc. Chettinad is a small area accessible from Madurai, Trichy, Tanjore and Rameswaram. It is the homeland of a Nattukottai Chettiar community, a community that made huge fortunes in south east Asia during colonial rule.
