What a fabulous hotel and definitely one of the best on the C2C route! Arrived at 4.30 in the sunshine after a horrendous day of walking through the rain and gales from Patterdale. Pub was extremely busy (lots of events in Shap and a local wedding!) so we did look rather scruffy but not once were we looked down on....

Delighted to have found this traditional walkers inn - peaceful in the tiny village of Bampton. Very warm welcome from all staff. We have stayed in rooms 1 and 2 which are spacious and overlook the front of the inn. I was initially worried that the church clock opposite would keep me awake - chimes every 15 mins and is...

Accomodationg a vegan and meat eater and a dog lover - Crown and Mitre really shone out. Great food, chilled about our small dog and he even got nice walk behind the church. Would definitely go here again. Recommended by the Ing Inn in Shap where we were staying.

You were most welcome! Well behaved dogs are always allowed in the bar area, but not in the dinning room. And we do ask owners to keep their dogs the lead just in case. Glad you enjoyed your visit, and thank Ing Inn for recommending us. Jane PS Our chef can nearly always accommodate Vegans in ace anyone else is...

For the weary cyclist on a charity ride the crown and mitre have been amazing, they were accommodating for meals as we were running (cycling) late and kind and helpful. We can't thank everyone enough for their support. Our evening meal was excellent, I would love to come again

Looking for a place to stay on the C2C after walking along Haweswater this was the only place available. It did involve a couple of miles off route but far preferable to going through to Shap. Our room was very good looking like it had been recently renovated either a very smart bathroom. The meal in the evening was also...

We were walking the Coast to Coast Path, and stayed in a nearby B&B, and needed a place to eat. We were very pleasantly surprised. There is loads of character, and interesting touches like the little library, and fascinating photos, of local scenery and family achievements. The setting was spacious and uncrowded, but busy. Service was friendly. The staff were...

We stopped here whilst on the Coast to Coast walk. Welcoming staff and pleasant bar area, but felt that the rooms were slightly overpriced for the quality, and also slightly disappointed with the slow service and quality of the vegetarian evening meal on the night we were there (but it did seem a very busy evening in the bar). Breakfast...

Thank you for your feed back, it is much appreciated. I will ensure the staff are aware that service could have been better and that the Chef checks that there is always a choice of vegetarian dishes available.

Had stayed here once before so deliberately booked it for two nights as there is nowhere dog friendly at Orton. Not disappointed in any way. Superb food and very comfortable room. Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful .an outstanding place to stay. Beautiful setting

A lovely shower, WiFi and space for bags in the room. There were loads more rooms upstairs than anticipated. The hourly church bells through the night were annoying, but they thoughtfully provided earplugs by each bed. Breakfast was delicious with fresh fruit salad and very tasty scrambled eggs.

A real find, the Crown and Mitre is located in a picturesque town across the road from a stone church whose bells chime the hours. The room was clean and simple, with deliciously comfortable beds. The pub downstairs was convivial, and the meal was fresh and healthy with lots of good veg. The walk out of Bampton to Shap is...
