We had a mix up with the nearby Holiday Inn ( by the way, they treated us poorly) and had no where to stay. We pulled in to the nearby Casa Antigua, very stressed and they made us feel at home immediately. MJ rented us a very comfortable room, let us use the phone to clear up the erroneous charges from the aforementioned place. We settled in, enjoyed the lovely courtyard, got some pet therapy from the dog and cat and slept like logs. The morning continental breakfast was good and MJ arranged an Uber to the airport, five minutes away. Yes, the hotel is in the flight path of the airport, but that didn’t disturb our sleep at all as the bed was very comfortable. They went the extra mile at this place so I would recommend it. Not cold and corporate but homey and kind.

We stayed at Hotel Casa Antigua for approximately 12 hours. We wanted to spend our last night in Costa Rica near the airport to catch our early flight out. Hotel Casa Antigua was a charming and enjoyable experience. The staff were extremely helpful, thoughtful, and kind. They were present for late check in and arranged a taxi for us to get to the airport in the morning. The staff also recommended several places to eat within walking distance. The room was small, but perfect for our needs. AC worked well and no bugs/pests (besides one baby lizard that was very cute and easy to remove). The outdoor area by the pool is large and has several tables/lounge spaces to relax in and dine at. Breakfast is offered daily, which is a nice touch. We got the impression that the owners work very hard to maintain this hotel and do everything they can to make their guests comfortable. The best feature was Pichou, the owner’s Persian cat who can be found lounging near the pool or front desk. He’s a charmer and very friendly. Our stay at Hotel Casa Antigua was brief but very nice. You can find a Best Western or Hilton anywhere. Stay here instead.

ps - ear plugs were offered incase of highway noise, but we had absolutely no issue sleeping and did not need them. Quiet enough for us.

After a long flight, this hotel was fine for what we needed as a family with a 3 year old. Close to San Jose airport, clean and comfortable. The staff and owner's brother were really helpful in recommending somewhere to get food nearby and were very friendly. Our son liked helping knock some mangos off the tree in the back garden! During the afternoon there was some noise from aeroplanes as you would expect being this close to the airport but we didn't notice it being noisy during the night. Breakfast the next morning was good too. Location was then perfect for us to walk 10 minutes max to Denny's to get our Interbus shuttle to La Fortuna.

This place was super cool! Quirky, fun, clean, very personable and hospitable. There was a cute dog and a cat to greet us, along with incredibly friendly and helpful humans who helped us call a cab to the airport at 5am and provided coffee and cake for an early morning breakfast. The ride the the airport was an easy 5 minutes. We also checked out the the nearby casino to kill time and enjoyed it.

I was impressed by the quirky art and beautiful woodwork inside and on the patio. The owners' brother and new manager were very welcoming to me and other guests. I appreciated their Spanish language help with getting delivery. Of note, only four rooms have air-conditioning. The building is old, so the street noise is loud, but they provided ear plugs. It was memorable for a one night stay.

My girlfriend and I happened upon Casa de Antigua after a stressful day of setbacks and struggles, but all of our woes quickly evaporated in the warmth of our gracious host Henri’s kindness and hospitality. The delicate ease with which he could interpret and temper our frustrations, then provide relaxation and comfort were revealing of a man practiced in the fine art of hospitality; all while in one of the most charming guest houses I’ve ever been in.

If you’re just looking for a lifeless experience within four bland walls and a roof, Holiday Inn Express is right down the street and will serve you the sterile experience you seek. However, if you want the opportunity to freely roam a palatial poolside patio adorned with handcrafted wooden furniture, take in the rich ambiance of a year 1901 renovated local home steeped in character and love—this could be the place for you.

You won’t find anywhere else to avoid the hustle and bustle and noise being this close to the airport, but Casa de Antigua does an amazing job of transporting you to the most serene and cozy place possible with the convenience of proximity to your arrival or departure in San Jose. We had a lovely room with a hot shower and comfy bed. Henri brought us a delicious omelette breakfast in the morning. He also transported us through the rain in his personal car to get rotisserie chicken for supper, then provided plates and utensils for us to enjoy our meal. There were almost no limits to his accommodations, and we were so thankful for his kindness. It also must be said that our second host, Pichou, a red Persian kitty cat absolutely enchanted us. Everything about this place is lovely and it is a must stop for us on any visit to Costa Rica now.

The hotel is lovely and the staff are nice. But I cannot imagine how anybody could ever sleep here. Our room was right next to the road which had very large loud vehicles passing all night, using their engine breaks, honking etc. On top of that every 3rd or 4th vehicle would hit what must have been a large pot hole causing our entire room to shake. And if that wasn’t enough it sounded like we were right on the airport runway with planes taking off until after midnight and starting again at 2:27am. (Yes, I know the exact time because I was awake enjoying the above mentioned racket.). The hotel very kindly provided earplugs which unfortunately do not help with this level of noise nor with the shaking and rattling of the building.

The website says that the included breakfast starts at 6 am but it doesn’t actually start until 7 am. They kindly let us take some fruit at we had to leave by 6:30.

Needless to say, we would not stay here again.

Since we arrived kind of late to San Jose, we wanted something close to the airport and where we could walk to our car rental place the next day. I wanted to find something more uniquely Costa Rican and reasonably priced and this certainly fit the bill. This was a very cute place, with friendly hosts, and with a lot of character. It came with a continental breakfast and wi-fi. The only slight complaint was that it was kind of noisy being close to the airport and a busy road, but then that was what I wanted so no complaint here. I would recommend it especially for the good price.

We spent the night because our vehicle broke down. Nice bed and continental breakfast included. Amazing woodwork/artwork by the owner himself. In our hour of need, Henri went out of his way to offer comfort and sage advice. He secured a rental car for us and personally drove us to pick it up. He allowed us to leave our vehicle on his property until it could be towed to a shop. We left with the knowledge of gaining a true friend. Say hi to Henri from us!!!!

The location is perfect if you’re looking to stay near the airport. The woman who greeted us was so sweet and the outdoor animals were so delightful. The room was pretty small and smelled a bit “old.” I’m sensitive to lighting and was disappointed by the lighting choices. But it worked for the night before a 8am flight! I wouldn’t stay here again, but recommend it if you’re looking for convenience without frills.
