This was a highlight of my Copper Canyon trip. The place is simple, but the hospitality is outstanding. Doug nd the family are very involved in the local community, and open doors, enabling you meet the real people of the area. And he mixes a mean Margarita!

Wonderful time hiking and backpacking in Copper Canyon. We backpacked to a Tarahumara Pueblo village and then down to Urique. Diego arranged something that few others could do with such short notice (2 weeks). The location was great and the trip he arranged for me and my friend was excellent. Will go back and keep exploring more.

There was wifi but internet was very rarely available due to the limited bandwidth. Infrastructure challenged, with a toilet that rocked back and forth, a sink that leaked underneath, a narrow passage between the box of wood for the stove toward the bathroom, a pitcher of water with a broken lip so that many glass cleavage planes appear to present... There were 5 of us; me, my wife, my mother and two friends. Doug collected us from the rail station and we spent 3 days at the Oso. The food was simple but excellent, the rooms very comfortable and quiet except for the morning birds. Doug was a great host, took us to the local Tarahumara school and then on... More

Do not visit the Copper Canyon region without seeing Urique Canyon. Hotal Paraiso del Oso provided me with an excellent package including transfers to/from the train at Bahuichivo, rustic accommodation with all meals, and a wonderful day tour to the rim and base of Urique Canyon. The hotel is very peaceful with great food and hospitality. It's a real touch... More

I recently had the pleasure of returning to the Paraiso del Oso lodge in Copper Canyon, 14 years after I'd visited it on a solo trip the the canyon in 2001. The owner of the place, Doug "Diego" Rhodes, is a genuninely great guy (muy buen hombre),. a fabulous guide, and committed to preserveing the natural and cultural heritage of... More

We had a wonderful stay here with our three young children. Set amongst spectacular scenery. A place different to the other tourist hotels where the tour groups go. Share the really beautiful garden courtyard with a great variety of birds. We had really delicious home cooked meals that we all enjoyed, especially with pre dinner jug of Margaritas. A very... “Our room had two double beds, shower/toilet, and wood stove for heating. Larger, family rooms are available. Rooms open into a beautiful courtyard and have a great view of the towering cliff for which the hotel is named.”

“All the rooms have beautiful views of the "Yogi the Bear" rock formation. We honestly didn't spend all that much time in the room because the lodge the the surrounding landscape were so incredible. There was plenty of hot water, and the beds were comfortable, and that was all that mattered to us.”
