My husband and I just spent 2 nights at Hotel Paraiso del Oso where the hotel owner, Hugo, treated us like family. He and his wife, daughters, mother, sister and her children fed us very well with gourmet quality, home style cooking. Hugo also spent many hours driving us to see incredible views of the general area, including spectacular views...

We stayed at the Paraiso del Oso for two nights in March and really enjoyed it. The setting is spectacular. The birdlife is great. The hotel is rustic but comfortable. And Doug and his family made us feel like special guests. In part this might have been because (besides our little group) each night there was only one other guest...

Your experience at Paraiso del Oso is all about being in the country and enjoying the wonderful family environment. Hugo will guide you on horseback or hiking - his sister cooks your meals and Doug will tell you endless stories of the area. The rooms are basic - the food is filling - the atmosphere is excellent. We were on...

It's only charming if everything works, and here it does. Soft beds, clean sheets, copious hot water, no bugs, and potable water provided. Oh, and 3 meals. Decent meals too. The oil lamps, while fully functional, are now mainly for atmosphere. And the heat from the woodburning stove is now supplemented by electric blankets, as they now have electricity. As...

For anyone heading to the incredible Copper Canyon area of Mexico a must stop is the family owned and operated, Hotel Paraiso del Oso. You will need to get off the Chepe train in Bahuichivo and have the hotel meet you for the short drive to the hotel. The hotel’s great rooms are rustic and reminiscent of a lodge in...

We were a couple traveling independently. I dealt directly with Doug Rhodes (owner) booking this hotel. Doug was also extremely helpful as we planned our Copper Canyon trip. For that we thank him. The hotel or lodge is a short distance out of Cerocahui and is quite peaceful. Doug or Hugo (Doug’s son) runs trips (tours) to the town. Doug...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The food was excellent, the atmosphere is warm and relaxed, and our tour to the surrounding area was very good. The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. We loved having the heat from the wood burning stove in our room. I would spend a couple of days here relaxing and reading and just...

There was nothing wrong with the lodging or the food but the owner Diego made inappropriate remarks that made me feel really uncomfortable, which is a shame b/c his adopted son Hugo was so nice. Hugo came to pick my boyfriend and me up from the El Chepe train station straight to the hotel and was super friendly the whole...

Three of us stayed at the Paraiso del Oso on a trip through Mexico in June 2013. We stayed with the Rhodes family for two nights and you could easily fill up a few more days there if you wanted to. The rooms are clean and comfortable but it's the atmosphere and warmth of Diego and his family that makes...

What a beautiful spot in the world this is. And what a warm feeling the lodge has. We stayed with the Rhodes family for 2 nights which is the minimum anyone should stay in this spot. When you stay here you become part of the fa mily. The day we arrived, Diego's son, Hugo picked us up from Bahuichivo station...

“All the rooms have beautiful views of the "Yogi the Bear" rock formation. We honestly didn't spend all that much time in the room because the lodge the the surrounding landscape were so incredible. There was plenty of hot water, and the beds were comfortable, and that was all that mattered to us.”
