I have been in many hotels around alberta for business, and this one was one of the most mediocre/lower end of the spectrum for quality. No continental breakfast (which is extremely common nowadays, nothing even fancy needed, just a little place to grab a free coffee and a muffin, sit down and read a paper would be nice). The lobby itself is small and kinda cramped, when I went, the elevator wasn't working to get to the 3rd floor (where I was placed) and I wasn't the only one after hearing others on the same floor. The room itself was not bad admittedly, good tv, mini fridge and microwave that worked fine, bed was standard, pillows were pretty flat and not very cushion-ey, batthroom counter was quite small and the shower felt very cramped for someone who is 6'2. My biggest gripe, call me a nitpicker, but the internet. I get that no hotels are going to have state of the art fibre optic internet, but as someone who stayed there for a week due to work, it would be nice if I could even watch netflix or surf the internet. This hotel has the worst internet connection I've ever used, almost entirely unusable for the entire stay, constant drops, horrendous ping, terrible connection. Fairview is not a big eventful town where I can go out and experience the town, I'd just like to relax, but that wasn't really possible. If I could change 1 thing, it would be to replace the damn internet, if you're going to advertise "high speed wifi" at least make sure it works first.

We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality that we received here. Only stayed one night but the front desk staff were friendly and accommodating. We just on time to take advantage of the Sunday evening seafood buffet and it was very good and we did not feel rushed. If we have the opportunity to visit again we would not hesitating to stay here. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming so we left with a very good impression.

Upon arrival at the hotel I got the feeling I was at the wrong end of town. The lobby and reception area looked really old and messy. a couple of large signs warning customers about pets and liabilities for vehicles and their content.

I checked in and went upstairs and I entered the room and intermediately it was like I was back in time. The old CRT TV and the carpets and drapes just threw me back. The good thing about old hotels like this is the concrete building was quiet and that is what I was looking for.

I met the rest of our group for supper at the restaurant in the hotel. I took some pics of the room with my phone to show to the others so we can compare who had the oldest looking room. To my shocking surprise, Everyone else in the group was talking about their newly renovated rooms and large screen LCD TVs.

Now I was quite offended that I was given a room in the old part of the hotel and all the others got to stay in the renovated side. We reserved 5 rooms and i was the first to check in that day.
It then occurred to me it must be the color of my skin..I was the only visible minority in the group.

We definitely will not be staying at this place in the future.

I recently spent a week renting a suite at the Dunvegan Inn and Hotel. Never have I experienced such unprofessionalism and ignorance in my life. While frequenting the restaurant and front desk I was constantly faced with rude remarks and arbitrary prices. In one instance I ordered a salad in the restaurant and it arrived brown, slimy and wilted. I asserted I did not want to eat or pay for the salad. After the manager arrived and I stated my case, he exploded with anger. After I returned to my hotel room the manager called me and demanded that now I have to pay double for the salad I never ate as it was rotten. The staff was constantly rude and unprofessional, it seemed as if even the manager didn’t know how to conduct business. I felt like I was in a bad Rob Zombie film. I will never again stay at that crazy place.

I stayed at the Dunvagen Inns and Suites on the weekend of Dec. 2 and 3, 2017. I arrived on Friday night. When my son and I went up to our room, the room smelled like cigarette smoke. The carpet looked like it had not been vacuumed in awhile and there were cigarette burns in the carpet. There were sticky drink rings on the bureau. I phoned the front desk and was offered a new room. The room we went to was cleaner and smelled somewhat better. Both rooms had seen better days, as the furniture was old and both had carpets with burn marks. The next day my son and I were out of the room for the whole day. When we returned in the evening the room had not been serviced at all. There were no new cups, the garbage had not been taken out, there were no new towels, and the beds had not been made. I called the front desk and they sent up towels. When I checked out I remarked on the lack of cleaning and the woman at the front desk became very angry very quickly and became increasingly rude. She told me that if I kept complaining she would charge me extra. When I asked to speak to the manager she told me that she was the owner/manager. When I asked for her business card she told me that she didn’t need to give me anything. The lack of customer service displayed by the owner/manager was appalling. If I have to stay in Fairview again I would rather drive back and forth to Grande Prairie than stay at this establishment again.

Awful service. Went to butter chicken more often. Food was crappy and the wait staff was not polite. Had to wait almost 30 minutes for a drink. I will never stay again. Rooms were old and very outdated. Don’t waste your time or money. I would rather sleep in my car in the middle of winter. The snow removal is terrible. Maybe hire someone that knows what they are doing.

I stayed for 2 night. Very bad experience with rude staff. The Internet they claim to have NEVER worked. They were very defensive about it, got angry and blamed it on Telus saying it's beyond their control. She basically told me if I don't like it, Apparently, this has been an ongoing problem and they said they have never been able to fix . I asked to speak to the manager several times, the front desk staff kept telling me she's busy. I left messages for the manager to call - never heard from her. The beds were squeaky and very uncomfortable. This is an uncivilized place. I thought small town people were nice and polite. It was the opposite. I think the people who work here are either related or close friends. I will never ever stay at this motel again.

Not sure how this hotel gets a 3 star rating except the fact it is fairly big and has a bar and restaurant.
In a nutshell in point form.
All the contents in room is very dated.
Likely 25 years old or so.
Crusty polyester bedspread
Starchy chlorine smelling linens.
Hard bed- which meant sore back all week.
Found a hair in the bed that was not mine.
Electric heat from a baseboard heater.
Which meant it was hard to control the room temperature either way to hit or way to cold.
Had to open the door to regulate room temperature.
All the towels were super thin dicolured and not soft.
Food was hit and miss.
Had 2 decent meals out of 5.
Stopped dining there.
Service was terrible.
Day front counter staff not friendly .
Evening and night staff very friendly.
Parking lot was not cleared of snow to Thursday late afternoon which led to me getting stick in there parking lot 3 times in my rental car since Monday.
Will never go back.
I will stay in a different town 30 kms away when I have to return for business.
$109 plus taxes but you have to ask to get this special rate.
Best regards

Stayed at this hotel for 10 weeks. Very outdated & depressing room. Furniture is old. Looked like it was collected from a free curb side giveaway. Table had paper napkin shoved between legs & top to stabilize it. Weekends are very loud, difficult to sleep. My kitchen suite was not what the pictures portray online. Oven had no knob which made it unusable, kitchen tap leaked, only had one cup & one glass ... had to ask for more mugs but was expected to use the disposable 'glasses', little fridge with small open shelf for freezer items. Water leaked onto the bottom of the fridge from this 'freezer' which soaked my groceries. You have to walk thru the 'kitchen' to get to bathroom as they are side by side. The bathroom vanity is in the 'kitchen'. I found both of these situations unsanitary. Pillows are rock hard. The bedroom has pipes exposed on the ceiling & walls. It seemed as if this room was added on later. May have been a storage room. Was quite creepy. TV was the old huge box type. Lunch buffet was horrible. Frozen hamburger patties hardly make a ground beef steak! Would never recommend this place or stay there again. Very disappointed.

We were in Fairview for a family wedding and stayed at Dunvegan. Accommodations were adequate; didn't try the restaurant. A little on the pricier side for Fairview but it is the most modern hotel in town. We paid just under five hundred dollars for three nights.

If you are single or without children it would be an ok place to say but we can not recommend this accommodation for a family. The elevator was directly in front of the bar, which is unavoidable and loud at night. Returning from our wedding events in the evening with sleeping child in arms was unsettling walking the gauntlet of loud, drunken patrons out front of the building each night; having to wait for the elevator outside the bar doors with the loud music and raised voices was also disturbing.

Unsuitability for a family was made especially clear when our 4 year old became quite ill at 3:00 am. He threw up over both us and much of the bed. We requested clean sheets and were denied for no clear reason. We then requested a room change and were denied; similarly, we were denied to obtain clean sheets from an empty adjacent room. The only assistance provided was advice to try using a plastic bag. This is unhygienic, insensitive and unacceptable. The owner was entirely recalcitrant. We were allowed a late check-out from a kind staff person who clearly felt badly having witnessed my exchange with the owner. I've never had an experience like this and hope never to again.
