This small hostel in a beautiful setting in a remote valley is fine for a one or two night stay if you wish to explore the immediate area only. However, it is not ideal for a longer stay if you wish to explore the wider area by car as it takes too long to get to and from a main... More

Great hostel in a beautiful location. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, rooms were extremely clean, food was delicious. Recommend booking evening meal as hostel is very remote. Our meal was lovely, tomato and pepper soup with bread and butter, Cumberland sausage with veg, hot fudge cake and cream, wonderful. Rooms were great, very clean and comfortable. Highly recommend!

Me and my friend Matthew spent the weekend at this lovely hostel where we were very well looked after by Mark, the hostel manager. From the outset Mark was very helpful in showing us both about and had some great advice to offer when it came to different walking routes in the local area as well as boozers in the... More

Iv tipped towards five stars for the location and the communal atmosphere! Made for a great trip. Friendly staff - a shout out to Henry! The self catering kitchen is small but seens as most people veered towards a catered stay there weren't any problems. My dorm room had enough space and storage. I was lucky enough to put my... More

Be warned this is not at Ennerdale Bridge but rather 5 miles further around the lake and is pretty remote! As is happened it turned out well - you can schedule your day to walk to Ennerdale Bridge for a rest and wholesome refreshment and then finish off the walk to the YHA. It makes a big Day 1 but... We arrived here drenched after a day's walk on the coast to coast. The guy on duty (let's call him Mark) greeted us warmly and was flexible when we realised we had forgotten that we had ordered lunch we no longer wanted. He also helped us put our clothes in the warmest part of the drying room, although the heating... More

I could not have been better hosted by Mandy and Mark, great food, solitude when you want it and good company with interesting guests. Mark went the extra yard and helped me with walking poles and glued the sole back on my boot (now returned to shop). He and Mandy both cooked great breakfasts and evening meals. All amenities clean... More

We had a great 2 days in Ennerdale. The hostel was immaculate, with tulips to decorate the table, excellent furnishings and top notch food at the shared mealtime. Thank you to Mark and the team for creating such a friendly place in the middle of a wonderful and wild setting.
