Madonna was a wonderful host. We had the house to ourselves and it was lovely. So peaceful. Madonna left us a loaf of homemade bread and fresh jam - perfect for breakfast before a day of kayaking with AdventureNewfoundland. Very well equipped kitchen. Great communication!

We spent two nights at Gillespie House. The accommodations are very comfortable and Madonna was very knowledgeable about the area and the history. The waterfront location provided beautiful views and the deck was a lovely place to relax after a day of activity. On our last morning we enjoyed a hike to Hamilton Cove on the other side of the bay.

We stayed here the night before we rented a kayak from Adventure Newfoundland. The accommodations were wonderful. We stayed in a room that had a balcony and a view of the harbor. We had dinner, breakfast, and lunch at the inn, and everything was excellent. Breakfast is for guests only, but the dining room is open to everyone for lunch and dinner. The homemade breakfast jams on homemade toast and the partridge berry cake and blueberry crumble desserts were particularly memorable. The owner was the friendliest person we met in Newfoundland. She shared a lot of local history with us, recommended some hikes that are reachable by kayak, and she had a good sense of humor. Her husband was nice too. I would definitely take the road less traveled and stay there again in the future.

We just returned from a two night stay at Gillespie House and we enjoyed every moment. The rooms were lovely, the food & service was great and the people treat you like family. Our boat tour with Sonny arranged in house by the owner Madonna was just about the best. She even joined us for a well needed break and we loved her company. Every year we try to go some where on the island we have not been before however, I feel that we will have to go back to Gillespie House and spend some more time with the good people of Fortune Harbour!

I loved my stay here, and was fortunate to be the first traveller of the season - The house is charmingly appointed & spotless. I had my pick of the room - was offered the loveliest which had views of the bay on two sides so I could see the icebergs. So much hospitality and warmth from the host, Madonna who served home cooked meals each morning and night. Pan fried local caught cod, salmon from Labrador and homemade partridge berry cake ! The next day, I took a day kayak tour with the local partner business Adventures Newfoundland - another great find and got to see the icebergs close up! The history of the house was fascinating and Madonna had some wonderful stories. Felt like staying with family! Hope to return next year!

I wish we could give 6 stars. We have just spent 2 days at Gillespie House and can't rate our visit highly enough. Donna and Sonny made us so welcome. Our room was comfortable and clean. The Quirk room is amazing having its own balcony and the most stunning views. The food is tasty and all home cooked and as I'm vegetarian Donna provided lovely veggie alternatives. The wonderful sense of peace in Fortune Harbour was worth the long drive. We don't review very often.. It has to be something special for us to do so and Gillespie House was certainly that. If you are wanting bright lights, night clubs and bars Fortune Harbour is not for you. If you want peace, tranquility and beauty make your booking now. You won't regret it.

My husband and I just spent three nights at Gillespie House, Fortune Hr. It is a beautifully restored home with an interesting history. Donna, Alice and Lisa took such good care of us we hated to leave. Donna's husband, Sonny took us for a tour of the Harbour in his boat. We enjoyed the scenic hiking trails. It was a beautiful, peaceful community. The restaurant attached to the house has a wonderful view of the harbour and some of the best home cooking. It is definitely worth the drive.

This café is almost at the end of the road in Fortune Harbour. It sits just up from the water with nice views out the windows. We arrived just before closing but we were served in a leisurely manner and we did not feel rushed at all. The cod was delicious and the macaroni and cheese was good. Newfoundland macaroni and cheese is a bit different from what we are use to, it is literally cooked macaroni with slightly melted cheese added either in layers or put on top. The macaroni here was cooked in a white sauce with some cheese added to it. Wonderful atmosphere, homey and friendly. A definite stop if in the area.

We went for a drive down to Fortune Harbour with our friends for the day. They had eaten at Gillespie House Cafe before so we decided to go. I couldn't get over the fact that there was such a beautiful cafe and bnb in this beautiful rural Newfoundland town. The view from the deck was stunning and the food was delicious. Take some time off the beaten path and explore this beautiful area and this fantastic cafe.

My wife, daughter & son in law stayed for a few nights. Donna was a terrific hostess. Our meals were delicious, especially the fried cod, buttered potatoes & homemade bread. Great view of the Harbour from the restaurant. Thanks to the excellent staff for their hospitality. Sonny gave us a terrific boat tour and took us fishing. Our daughter & son in law still talk about their great time. Anytime you are in Newfoundland, Gillespie House should be a definite stay. We will definitely come back.
