I found this Guesthouse during a last minute search for accommodation and how lycky was I. I stayed in room 2 and lived every minute of my stay. The Lady of the house was kind, warm, welcoming and accommodating. Not knowing the area the owners recommended a local pub where the food was lovely. I hope I get the opportunity to stay at the lovely guesthouse house again very soon. Thank you very much for making my stay like home away from home.
Stayed for W/end Friday-Sunday in room 5. Nice looking room - decorated in French style. Provided usual tea coffee making facilities, hair dryer, + (a bonus) iron & ironing board, small flat screen TV, DVD player & freeview . Cleaned daily & bed linen changed whilst there. Ample coat hangers in curtained wardrobe area + soft fluffy robes. Other furniture included a small ‘love seat’, bedside chairs, dressing table, bedside tables & a small drawer unit all again fitting the French theme. Our twin beds which were very comfortable had bedding matching the wallpaper & curtains & had a curtained half canopy. All quite romantic however we noticed that wallpaper was coming away in one corner of room & there was evidence of a possible loose roof slate or previous leak on ceiling. The en-suite was quite roomy with an electric shower, toiletries, shaving socket & ample towels - the bath towels were quite large (a definite + from me as I took a bath towel with me & didn’t use for a change). The only negatives were the:- 1. fitted carpet which was taken through from bedroom - something we personally don’t like for potential hygiene risks 2. The shower wasn’t working consistently but after reporting it too the owners they ‘fixed’ it quickly & we believe they have bought a new one to be fitted ASAP. Full English Breakfast was included in our room tariff. For others it’s continental normally - but can pay for cooked breakfast from a selection of choices up too the full English. Overall the breakfast was very nice which we had with toast & cafeteria coffee. I enjoyed the sausage (which I don’t usually eat) but didn’t really like the bacon (husband loved it). The eggs were from their own hens & ‘free range’. You can specify what time you want breakfast between 7.30 & 9am which is a nice touch. There are extensive grounds with a children’s play area, outside seating area with barbecue facilities & sun loungers. Also important for me a designated smoking area by parking area. One niggle was that their road sign wasn’t very visible & we nearly missed the turning a couple of times (especially when it was going dark) Overall as stated we enjoyed our stay & my husband made friends with the owners dogs & me with their cat! We would visit again (as a lovely place & area) for relaxation purposes (we had gone down for reasons to do with my husbands employment …
When we go visiting family in Atherstone we all ways stop at this lovely hotel the owner is really warm and friendly and inviting when we book we ask for the same room and she makes sure if its free that we stay in there the room is of a good size with all that you need in there. The breakfast in the morning is plentiful all ways cooked to order. The Chestnuts is like a home from home we cant wait to stop here again and would recommend anyone to stay here.
I booked well in advance for my stay in Atherstone for a conference i was attending, I secured a double room and was very satisfied with it. There was a mix up in my conference which meant i had to change my booking last minute and the owner was wonderfully helpful in doing that and it was no trouble. It is relatively easy to find but could possibly benefit with more clear signage as I did drive straight passed it the first time. There was no noise from the road at night, and free parking which was great. The room was perfectly big enough, the shower was nice and with flexible breakfasts I didnt feel rushed in the mornings. The breakfasts were cooked beautifully. The room was tended to every day whilst i was out. The bed was really comfortable and made up daily and the room generally tidied. I think the price was reasonable and I would highly recommend staying here. …
I stayed one night during my business trip as all other hotels nearby were fully booked. The room did smell a bit. This is really over priced for a guest house as 4 star hotel only 5 miles away was cheaper than this.
The Chestnuts is a converted and extended coach house. We were made very welcome by the owner, signed in and directed to our room. The rooms was traditionally furnished with bed, drawer and mirror unit, a large wall wardrobe with a small en suite shower room and toilet with sink. Unfortunately because people smoke on the property, our room did smell quite strongly of cigarettes, which meant that our clothes did too. Although the room was a reasonable size, the bed was rather hard and uncomfortable - but nothing that a foam mattress topper wouldn't fix. Breakfast was flexible which suited us and food was fresh and tasty. Lots of fresh tea and coffee. The owners also have a delightful golden labradore who was really friendly and a really cute tabby cat with the loudest purr.
Booked at very short notice (just a few hours) so wasn't surprised when I didn't get the best room (I was told it was Jenny's son's room). It was a small single room facing the road. No hanging space for clothes (the son's wardrobe was tied closed with string) and the room smelled either very stale or of smoke (I couldn't quite work out which). The pillow STANK of someone else's stale smoke though, which didn't make for a good night's sleep. Very effective double glazing keeps the road noise out, but I had to open a window in the middle of the night to get some air, so that defeated the object a bit. There was no milk left in the room for the tea and coffee. No big deal (it can't have been that big a deal cos I couldn't be bothered to go downstairs and ask for some). Like other reviewers I was very surprised that the cooked breakfasts were extra. A tired B&B that probably relies on the huge TNT distribution centre and Aldi head office round the corner for business travellers. £90 a night for that was way over the odds.…
Where do I start... We arrived at the B & B ( Bed & BREAKFAST, notice the capitals! ) with high hopes of great service and a freshly COOKED breakfast which we expected to be included in our initial payment, and we where only notified in the final bill of the large surcharge . It turns out that the COOKED breakfast option was not included and we were charged extra for it. Also added to our bill was a taxi fee by Jenny where we were dropped off where and when Jenny was heading into town. It is also supposed to be a non smoking facility and this seems to only be true for the guests as the majority of family and friends were seen smoking under the open windows and in the house . As o/s visitors we had hoped that a local family would provide good local knowledge of the area, but they seemed to be clueless. All in all room was nice, but we felt like we got played. NOT RECOMMENDED…
My first time staying in. B & B and I was surprised, having to stay in hotels through out the Uk for business I have found most fall short in most areas of basic service, but the Chestnuts is different, my room was lovely, with a nice calm feel about it, gave me my best nights sleep for a long time,my breakfast was fresh and cooked to perfection, the house is a beautiful family home, the gardens very pretty,Jenny the owner was charming, she has this place right and I certainly have no problem in recommending the Chestnuts.
Had a comfortable night at the chestnuts, welcoming and friendly with a good quality breakfast, good parking and pretty garden. Room clean and well presented, comfy bed. Busy road but double glazed windows keeps the noise levels down, would definitely book again
