The Dongmyong Hotel was even more dated than the other hotels I visited in North Korea, feeling like a time capsule. And unfortunately, there wasn't much to do there. But the location was nice: there were great views of the sea!

Of the 5 provincial hotels we've stayed in in the DPRK, apart from the Yanggakdo, the Dongmyong was the best. On a point between the beach and the harbour, with great views from most rooms. Friendly staff, comfortable, plentiful hot water. OK restaurant, but eat across the street at the very good fish restaurant if your guides allow it. Nice...

First of all you need to understand that you are in North Korea, so my valuation must be read in context of this. The hotel is okay. They have running hot water and electricity almost continuously. The room is very basic, but enough for an overnight. There is a chance of calm bbq next to the hotel. I think it...

Well-situated next to the pier and a short walk into town. You can enjoy a ricketty, wobbly walk at night (bring a torch!) to the lighthouse to view Wonsan by night. Spot the Kims, shining brightest amongst the town's lights and glimpse the popup seafood restaurants along the pier. There are a few recreational activities on offer, including pingpong on...

The hotel is perfectly located next to the pier and central to town. The hotel is very spacious. The rooms are enormous. However there is no cooling and there are some strange odors. The bathroom also needs improvement. A pleasant and comfortable stay but works are needed.

Well situated, comfortable hotel with very friendly staff! What can one wish more than a room with a magic view onto the pier to the lighthouse. This was one of the few occasions, when I could observe Koreans coming with friends for a picnic and a drink in the evening, sitting on the rocks or under shade tarpaulins, elderly men...

I don't know why some of the reviews here are so negative. The lobby is not smelly, never mind "stinky," for example. The restaurant (2nd floor, breakfast inclusive of room rate) has a wonderful view over the sea, and if you order a Korean breakfast rather than accept the "European" one that they think all travelers want, you won't be...

Typical North-Korean lower level hotel, like the Youth Hotel in Pyongyang. Lacks maintenance, lack enough electricity to power the elevator (unless you make special request, then they shut down the lighting to give you elevator power). Pingpong table/bar in the middle of the hotel especially made to be loud in every room. Awesome sea views if you are on the...

Blackouts are frequent like everywhere in North Korea but the room view on the pier was great and here I had the best hot shower in 12 days of DPRK. Dining room has a beautiful view on the sea of Japan right on the rocky shore.

The only good thing is the location and the wonderful view. The rest is more like a horror show for F&B. The food looked awful and most of our group decided to take a walk around the big garden of the premises. The stench in the lobby was so bad that some of my friends applied tiger balm above their...
