We booked the hotel and restaurant for my wife's 60th birthday celebration over the May bank holiday weekend, and a splendid time was had by one and all. From the outset, we had excellent support and communication from the Maynard's events organiser, Kate Lloyd. Nothing was too much trouble, and Kate arranged a meeting with the chef, who produced a...

We really enjoyed an overnight stay at this hotel and found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly. As a family of 5 we often struggle to find hotels that can accommodate three children however The Maynard was able to provide a spacious room with an additional lounge area and the three single beds fitted in well. The en-suite...

A pretty and very friendly romantic hotel. Uninterrupted views and close to Michelin starred restaurants, High Peak hiking & fabulous Gastro pubs. The best of both worlds. If you're going to want a cab for the restaurants ensure you book them well in advance as these are small companies that have limited cars. Recommend: 2Nice

The hotel has great views over the valley, which can be enjoyed from the restaurant, rooms facing south and the well kept garden. The rooms vary...

I couldn't fault this hotel. Starting with a friendly welcome from Lana. The rooms was stunning. Beautifully designed and lovely views over the Dales. The restaurant was quiet and welcoming and the food very good. Add a cosy separate bar where you can also eat. I'm staying again when I'm anywhere near Grindleford.

Last night I hired the Windsor room for my daughters 18th & sons 21st birthday party. Before the day Chelsea (events organiser) made sure everything was ready for the evening. On the night the food was superb and the service was excellent. Thank-you to everyone at the Maynard for making our evening a relaxed and enjoyable one.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Peak District hotel and restaurant, The Maynard, was refurbished in March 2008 to become one of the best independent hotels in the Peak District. The building dates back over 100 years and during the refurbishment we have tried to respect this heritage whilst at the same time bringing the accommodation up to 21st century contemporary standards. The Peak District views from the garden, restaurant and bedrooms are stunning, and may leave you wondering if you’re miles from civilisation. Fortunately, as well as benefiting from a beautiful and tranquil location, The Maynard is very well located for visitor's from the outside world; The Maynard is less than 15 minutes from Sheffield by train (you can hop off at Grindleford station a couple of hundred yards from our door), and within easy reach of the M1, A57 Snake Pass and A61 by car. ... more   less
