I took a shuttle from Granada to the Monkey Hut for an afternoon and it was wonderful. The hostel grounds are clean and very pretty, you can't beat the view looking at the lagoon. It's worth the day entrance fee to use their inner tubes and kayaks, swim, and have a few icy cold beers. I enjoyed a truly delicious... More

Good: very helpful and English fluent reception by Lucia. Lovely upstairs room with private balcony overlooking Laguna. Spartan but very clean. Wifi good. No hot water but tepid not cold so able to shower comfortably. Lovely warm clean lake. Cons: we only stayed one night due to number of people- many just day trippers. Noisy, couldn't lie on beach due... More

Laguna de Apoyo is probably the best place for a bit of soulful restitude on your journey through Nicaragua, and if you're a hosteller/backpacker, there's no better place than the Monkey Hut. The location really is supreme and the Monkey Hut sits on an unrivaled piece of waterfront real estate. And the warm, volcanic mineral water really is magic. The... More

We stayed in the dorm room which has picture windows over looking the lake and a stunning view of the sunrise. It is set in the most beautiful location! I'm glad we stayed overnight to enjoy the setting without the day-trippers, being able to gaze at the stars, and swim early in the morning. Delicious pizza and drinks

A local in Managua told me about Laguna de Apoyo and specifically The Monkey Hut, and I'm so glad he did! I booked the Guardabarranco room for 2 nights, which is the largest room on property. It's actually a hut down by the lake with two hammocks and a couple of sitting chairs. The room itself is HUGE with a... More

We stayed next door at the Hotel Selva Azul but came over to the Monkey Lodge for dinner one night after seeing a large pizza oven in the back- the pizza was delicious! We spent a little time exploring the grounds- the bar area is very comfortable.

Plus: This truly was a great place for the end of my trip; it was super quiet at night and certainly relaxed and very clean. I appreciated no late music and late chats; finally a hostel to sleep. They turned away late visitors who wanted to tent thankfully so its not all about the money. Jason, the front desk man,... More

This was truly a hidden gem for me! I was told about this place from other travelers and locals in the beginning of my trip to visit here. So I took the journey to get here and was the best decision of my life! The Monkey Hut is so mellow and perfect after traveling either long or short distances. This... More

Came hear for the day with my parents and sister, we had a wonderful time lounging on hammocks, kayaking Laguna de Apoyo, sunbathing on the dock, enjoying some Flor de Caña and just enjoying life. Will def be back to relax at The Monkey Hut next time I'm in Nica!

“If you are a couple or just someone who is looking for a nice room, I would recommend the private rooms! I ended up staying in the dorms; which was was nice as well.”

“The rooms under the balcony facing the laguna get very intense, bright morning sun. The hut on the hill going down has a thatch roof currently covered in plastic, making it quite hot. Day trippers "camp out" right in front of this hut, so there's little privacy on the nice balcony (at least until they all leave).”
