Detailed Reviews
Had a wonderful girls' weekend at Sands on Golden Lake this past weekend. Sylvie at the front desk was very friendly and helpful, and helped us find our way around. We stayed in a double-queen room and it was large and welcoming with a gorgeous view of the lake outside large windows. The beds were extremely comfortable and although it was a chilly weekend, we could adjust the temperature to suit us.
We spent quite a bit of time at the restaurant, and all the meals we had were delicious, served quickly, and the serving staff were very pleasant. The floor manager, Bonnie, checked our vaccination records very efficiently when we entered the first time. The owners (Joanne and Zach) spent quite a bit of time with us and made sure that we were having a good time. Kaylib was a first-time server and he was very friendly and served us efficiently and promtly.
The spa is a very lovely little building on the beach and I would highly recommend Gwen (The massage therapist)!
There was entertainment on the Saturday night, a local celebrity (Roddy Piper), and the music was lively and covered country and popular songs. He encouraged us to join in and get up and dance!
All in all, I would highly recommend a weekend or longer at the Sands on Golden Lake. I will come back in the summer to check out the beautiful sandy beach.

Second time at sands at golden lake and loved it same as last time. Very relaxing.
Nice and clean room. They followed covid protocol so no housekeeping but it was ok as we were only there for two nights. Water was amazing. They have kayak and Canoe rental at very reasonable cost but we only found at the very end of your trip. It’s ok we will be back.

The Sands was a beautiful and convenient stop over on our recent snowmobile trip. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed everything about the property, including the spa! Great meals, attentive, friendly staff, and owners, It was obvious that everyone working at the property wanted to ensure a great guest experience. Our room was clean, neat and tidy, and had a comfortable bed. We highly recommend this property!
The spa services was a highlight for me, and part of the reason we chose this property. I was not disappointed! The spa is located in a small building with a beautiful view of the lake. Spa staff are wonderful, and the services I experienced were absolutely excellent.

The location is beautiful, but the restaurant is something that needs fixing.
We booked for our 27 Anniversary after seeing the resort on a tv renovation show and we like supporting local businesses. Anyway checkin was great the room was modern and updated, but their are many shortfalls. No glasses in the room, even though they provide a full-size fridge to chill food and beverages. The rooms have no glassware or microwave or toiletries. Would it be to so hard to provide a couple of glasses in the rooms instead of one paper cup that leaked? Our first night at the restaurant was good. The restaurant is dated and old 70/80 decor. Mind you it has a nice view of the lake. One major issue was the amount of flies in the restaurant they were everywhere. We ordered pub food for the first night and service was great and efficient. Mind you there was only maybe 6 people in the restaurant. So for our anniversary the second night we though, hey why not stay in house and eat in the restaurant again. What a mistake. There where maybe 12 people in the restaurant and our one server couldn’t handle this many people. We waited over 30 min to get our drinks due to our server trying to deal with people paying and new people showing up. Once served I have to say the food was maybe 3 star. Don’t try the gnocchi . Also with such a great spot why not set up an outside pub area with nice out door furniture. It’s a shame to be stuck inside with the flies on a beautiful summer evening.
The area is great. The Wilno up the road 15 min it worth a visit and definitely check out the Wilno pub.

Stopped in for one night while passing thru town. Hits and misses all around really.....
Hits? Most up to date room on our travels thru all the small towns in northern Ontario that we had in an entire week. Beautiful view of the lake, and the bed was super comfy. There is also a restaurant there that had great eats and the staff were super nice and friendly.
The misses? If you're a light sleeper you will for certain hear the transport trucks driving by all night, it sounded like they were coming thru the wall lol. The deck we had was shared with other guests and could be annoying in the summer months if you want quiet conversation. The price was a little steep as well, I paid $280 for a 1-night stay and a dinner meal that was a 2 for 1 wing night.
If you're in the area (Which really doesn't have much around) i would suggest staying here even with all the misses. If you're just looking for a dinner place this would definitely be the place of choice in my opinion.

Thank you for your feedback. To clarify matters for readers, I will state our room prices. The prices for our rooms start at $140 a night for a single queen room. Our deluxe rooms with two queen beds and a balcony overlooking the lake are $180 a night. The only additional fee is HST. We do not charge hotel taxes or cleaning taxes, which some of our competitors in Pembroke tack onto their prices. We are definitely priced competitive locally. And nobody beats our view!

First the positives the view is wonderful from the room and the beachfront is kept very nice. Also the price of the room is very reasonable. The negatives the property could be kept better. There were dead bugs and cobwebs everywhere nobody all summer had cleaned them up. There where rotting wood planks on our balcony that needed to be replace. The room wasn’t cleaned once the entire 4 days the reason/excuse was Covid. Well most places have now returned to cleaning the rooms during the stay. The queen bed was awful I squeezed terribly when you moved on it during the night and there was lots of dust under and behind the bed. Charge more for the rooms and hire some more people to clean the place. They seem to be hyper focused on weddings and the rest is partially neglected.

I am glad that you enjoyed the view and the beach. It is satisfying to get positive reviews about those two features. We only host a handful of weddings each year. They are definitely not our focus. I would like to address the cobweb and bug issue. In rural Ontario, you can clean the cobwebs in the morning and they return by lunchtime. We spray to keep the bug population down, we constantly clean up webs and sweep up bugs, but there are certain times of year that the wee beasties just win the battle. Never think this issue is neglected, however. Regarding daily cleaning of rooms -- most guests staying over several nights prefer not to have housekeeping come in each day and change all the linens and the towels. Covid made people less keen on personal contact and that has had a lingering effect even though covid is behind us. Also, with the general population's desire to be more environmentally sustainable, a full clean and wash daily of all linens and towels is no longer standard. However, any day you wish a cleaning, you just have to inform front desk, and they will take care of your cleaning needs throughout your stay. Thank you for your feedback. We hope you will return. (The bugs die off in the cold, so perhaps you would like to join us for a winter or autumn getaway.)

We spent two nights here and did appreciate having a room that looked over the lake and the beach. The food was good and on the mornings that breakfast was not served a "grab and go" breakfast was provided. Staff were very friendly. Our room was far too small to be comfortable. We wish we had asked more questions about our assigned room before coming.

Possibly one of the best stays we've ever experienced. The rooms are fresh and inviting, and the beds are exceptionally comfortable! The beach and location couldn't be more ideal, and the restaurant on site is delicious!

The Sands is a gem! The beach is fantastic and the spa is heavenly.
Some updates & small touches could be done for improvement, for example: hooks in the rooms for beach towels, maybe some soft outdoor Edison lights (rather than bright sensor lights) and refreshing the paint on the balconies. Also note that they are understaffed so that restaurant has limited hours, but the staff are doing the very best they can. Always be kind! :)

Thanks Nicole for your kind review. We have already painted some of the balconies and are working on getting the remaining portion completed before spring of next year. It is so difficult to paint when guests are in the rooms, as they are all summer. But, by net summer all should be done. We have also softened the exterior lights. Yes, we had to limit restaurant hours due to the staffing crisis. Thank you for being kind to our servers. Everyone is working hard.

My sisters and I stayed in a Chalet for 2 nights for a little getaway. The Chalet was clean and comfortable. The view was amazing! We ate at the restaurant when they were serving pub fare and had the best hamburger I've ever eaten! But the best thing about this place was service from the waitstaff to the owner everyone was very pleasant. Zach went above and beyond to help us out when we were in need. I can't wait to go back and will definitely be booking again.
