The 4 star hotel "Corte Altavilla" is an old medieval court situated in a residential area of the historical centre of Conversano, (City of Art). It stands on a hill, 8 km far from the sea, near the area of the "trulli" and the "grottoes." In 1100 beautiful and young Sibilla d'Altavilla lived here, who were Roberto Courtehouse's wife, the son of William II the Conqueror. Sibilla, missed queen of England, is buried inside the cathedral of Rouen, in Normandy.Following a complete restoration in 2002, a very unusual complex of antique dwellings, located within the walls of the medieval Altavilla court, has been transformed into a receptive centre with hotel rooms, elegant suites and apartments where original stone built rooms with whitewashed plasters, barrel vaults and wooden beams charm the guests. Nothing is made by chance: attention to the details, to the smallest things, in order to make everything elegant and sumptuous, between the past and the present, an harmonic contrast between the modern and the old.Discretion, kindness and helpfulness of our staff at the reception meet your needs to suggest itineraries from the cliffs of Polignano to the "trulli" of Alberobello, from the landscape of the Itria Valley to the "grottoes" of Castellana, and then the "white city" of Ostuni, Frederick II and Castel del Monte, the "rocks" of Matera, Salento, farmhouses, rocky churches: in a word: Apulia. The 31 dwellings (suites and rooms) are equipped with all modern comforts: direct control air conditioning, satellite TV, direct telephone, safes, free internet wi fi, fire alarm, minibar and kitchen area (available in some rooms). On request we have a Junior Suite with hydromassage bath tub. Also available: solarium terrace, concierge/information desk, bikes, transfer facilities and chauffeur, daily excursions by car or on boat all around the area; thermarium spa, cookery course and parking area. In the morning at our restaurant on the terrace with a beautiful view of the old town, you can have breakfast buffet: orange juice, yoghurts, different cereals, croissants, cakes and tarts, bread of a local baker's, toasted bread, marmalades, seasonal fresh fruit, taralli, cheese and salami, eggs. For dinner our chef offers a typical regional cuisine using fresh seasonal products and every day it proposes different menus which enclose the history and the culinary customs of our town. IN SHORT: Every room offers the following service: Free internet Wi fi, sat TV, heat/cold air conditioning with remote control, telephone, Internet connection socket, safe, hairdryer, kitchen area (on request in Standard rooms), minibar and smoke alarm. Internet Wi fi free of charge is in available in 100% of rooms and public areas. In the common area: Free Interne Wi fi free of charge, lounge, free Internet point, typical cuisine restaurant on the terrace with the view of the old city, 2 meeting halls, hall with reading area and courtesy cafe, solarium, lift, free parking service, thermarium spa. Furthermore, we have at our guests disposal: rental bikes, transfer service, organized excursions around Apulia, cookery course, boat or cruise excursions, riding school at 5 km far, olive oil bottles on sale with Corte Altavilla mark.

We have just spent a week at this hotel, it is very clean and nicely decorated. the breakfast is good with Giuseppe serving, he made sure we had scrambled eggs every morning being an English couple. But overall the breakfast is fresh with cake, ham, cheeses cereals, croissants etc. Angela was very helpful with organising for us to go to the local 600 year carnival in putignano, which was excellent, she also gave some recommendations of areas to visit, but we did miss a carnival on Friday in the local town where we was because she wasn't in to tell us about it. i did suggest that a weekly itinerary of events or places to visit would be a good idea for guests. Francesca was also very helpful, we found all staff at this hotel were nice and would stay again if in this area. We didn't have dinner here but the menu looked good, and the impression we got was good. Again didn't try the spa because we were busy visiting the surrounding towns by Bus, on this note make sure you get a timetable where you are going and back, you have to buy tickets in the tobacconist but they were very helpful. Lastly look at my review on the VERSO restaurant a lovely place to eat, also for a quick burger and chips or pizza Jaluke was good, also English music when the football is not on, Lucca, and Valencia were nice .

Dear guest, thanks a lot for your beautiful review... Above all .. I enjoyed the beginning of your review about .."Best of Puglia".. Thanks a lot... It's how you live! We're really trying the best to improve our services inside and outside the hotel and the good relation between quality of services and their prices. Your review is the mirror of our efforts started on July 2002, about 15 years ago.. And in these last months we developed organic and vegetarian menu in Goffredo, our restaurant on the terrace of Corte Altavilla. I'm delighted to offer an authentic and real life experience of Puglia for you! The hotel staff, the historic centre of Conversano and the soul of Puglia farms are waiting again for you! I hope to see you soon at Corte Altavilla! Letizia Valenzano

Had my 6th stay at Corte Altavilla. The hotel continues to offer the best in experiencing Puglia life, my favorite region of Italy. The front desk staff assure a pleasant experience. The restaurant on the roof serves excellent local cuisine. Conversano is a beautiful old town and perfect central location for the region.

This is a quaint hotel tucked in a corner of the village, in a quiet area. Our room was large and had a little terrace too. The breakfast and restaurant was up on the roof, and was good. It’s a nice place to stay.

Stayed here on a cycling tour of Puglia. Wonderful place in the old town. Beautiful building and fantastic spa. It has a rooftop restaurant and each room has the medieval charm. It is right in the heart of the old town. Very friendly staff.

This is a very nice hotel, full of character, down a little cobbled lane in Conversano. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant on the third/top floor was excellent, we had two lovely meals there and it is also where you have breakfast. Rooftop views as opposed to scenic views but very pleasant and open with indoor and outdoor seating. Our room 108 had a lovely window and Juliet balcony ie not one you sit on, but great to open the windows and listen to the sounds of Italian life. View over to the little cathedral, beautiful. Room would have benefited from comfier seating and although there was a mini kitchen in a wardrobe cupboard in the lounge area, but no kettle or tea/coffee facilities willthin room unless booked and paid separately. The only downside of the hotel is the lack of adjacent carparking. You have to drive in and drop luggage then take your car back out of town. The hotel has secure parking on a daily fee about 5 minutes walk away and we used it. If I'd been a lone traveller I wouldn't have liked using it in the dark but it's a perfectly good parking area. Top tip, ignore satnav etc and only enter the old town by car as suggested by the hotel ie via the entrance into the castle square (it's through the car park opposite the two Agip petrol stations) and bear right up towards the bars and round to the hotel. Conversano old town is small and mid May was still early season, but it's very pretty and peaceful. Easy drive to Polignano a Mare, plus easy walk from hotel to Coversano station for train that goes to Bari. All in all a nice relaxing little place.
