The place is very remote, the house is pretty with a tiny outdoor swimming pool. The hospitality has been very poor, we have not felt welcomed from the first time we arrived, the host was very cold and very keen on explaining the value of every single item in the apartment. Unfortunately we have not managed to relax and we will NOT definitely come back. We are suspicious of all these positive reviews as the place is not up to these standards.

Sasso Al Melo is right up in the mountains and a very beautiful place to stay! The accommodation here is lovely and has all mod cons and up to date facilities but still in keeping with it's traditional qualities! The views as expected are stunning and can not be faulted plenty of nature to spot to! The roads as expected tho can be a little scary and dangerous and my advise would be to take it slow and not drive to them in the dark! We honked the horn when approaching tight corners to alert any on coming traffic. The location is quite far out from anything which is perfect if you want to just hide away and stay In and it is so peaceful! There is a very small village about a 10 min drive and perfect to pick up a few fresh local essentials but I would advise a trip to supermarket for supply's before heading on to Sasso Al Melo accommodation. It was fairly cold and cloudy up the mountain so we drove into Florence, Pisa, Lucca and also spent a day wine tasting all of which I would recommend but be prepared for 1:30-2hour drives. Overall a lovely very pretty place to stay and perfect for a cosy romantic break but if you are planning on visiting Italy to experience all the wonderful cities and landmarks (Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Pistoia ) be prepared to drive and travel for some time!

Sasso al Melo was just perfect for us, The setting was wonderful , high up in the hills, the spring flowers were amazing and the walking was spectacular. As we climbed up the seasons went backwards ending up in early spring at the top! We were in the separate cottage which was very comfortable with a great shower. The terrace was a lovely spot to have breakfast and read. And we found some truly lovely food in Cutigliano and the village itself.Sylvia was an excellent manager helping us to find good places to eat and providing a comprehensive walking map. We felt well cared for!

Beautiful setting with lots of walks nearby - worth getting a map in nearby Cutigliano; immaculate and superbly stylish and individual accommodation with really helpful and friendly owner and manager. Finished to a very high standard - including feather duvet and pillows!

Sasso al Melo, sits around 5 kms above the town of Cutigliano up a winding road that continues a further 7 kms up to the ski area at Doganaccia. There are three apartments in the main house, and a separate guest house, all named after apple varieties as there is an orchard below. They are arranged around a small plunge pool and gardens and there is a utility room for all the guests to share. Although everyone has there own sitting out and dining area they are not particularly 'private', the most private though would be the separate house. The small complex is in a gorgeous setting and the buildings and gardens have been beautifully restored. Each apartment is thoughtfully and tastefully renovated to a really high standard, with plenty of character. The Alpine climate was a lovely surprise to us and we found it very refreshing. The occasional staff of the complex were very friendly and everything was kept immaculately. There was very little local knowledge on hand so it would be handy to really research your stay as there is no Internet access that we were aware of. We enjoyed walking in the mountains using the cable car in the village, and you can take the train from Pracchia not far away if you need to visit the city. We both loved the estate and will definitely return another year!
