This is a cozy comfortable place to stay with family. Victoria is a gracious host who cannot do enough to make your stay exceptional! Young and old enjoyed this unique piece of Brier Island history. If you want the local experience along with the knowledge that goes along with it, this is the place to stay.
Excellent stay Vicki and Floyd very lovely home and farm The minute you arrive you are welcomed like family very older home with tons of character The beds are comfortable and breakfast was delicious We would go back again thank you
We stayed here the night before my 50th as we were on the early morning whale trip. The house itself is beautiful country cottage charm and the bed is really comfy. Going out running the following morning was stunning. Tip: Brier Island is a small low population island. There is a shop and cafe where you can get hot food and also water/snacks etc but they both close around 7pm. The lodge at the top of the hill is about a mile from Hooking Retreat accomm and they do food until around 9.30pm but you would need to drive there as it's only a mile but mainly uphill and in the dark. Breakfast at Hooking was great!
Although my arrival was somewhat unexpected (there was a small communication mixup), Vicki and Floyd were welcoming and gracious, and I immediately felt at home. After what had been a long day of travel for them, they still made time and energy to give me a tour of the farm (lambs! alpacas! chicks! rabbits! a pony! more!) as well as Vicki’s rug-hooking and textile studio. My room was spacious and comfortable, with a bathroom just down the hallway. Coffee and Vicki’s secret-recipe blueberry pancakes will power you through your morning. You know what else will power you through? Terrific, positive, affirming, supportive conversation, that’s what! Vicki and Floyd are the kindest folks you’ll meet, with interesting stories to share. Vicki and I had an immediate connection, and…
My wife and I stayed here on our trip to Nova Scotia. This place was perfect. The hostess was super friendly and knowledgeable about the island, the room was comfortable and clean, and the location was perfect. We couldn't have asked for a better place. We didn't even mind the bleating sheep in the morning.
