We were surprised when we arrived at Villa Adélaïde because of the beautiful garden that lies like a park behind the villa. By providing us with a code, we could open the front door and know where our room was located. The room is spacious and the bathroom has a beautiful walk-in shower. Breakfast is served and that is actually very nice. The villa has been beautifully restored, giving it a romantic feel.

Beautiful hotel with fantastic rooms. We had a great stay there. Loved the place.

Big parking spot in front of the house. Very easy to find and close to town center.

Perfect communication with the owner. Arrived late in the evening. Everything prepared. Door opens with a code

Breakfast been fantastic with everything you wish. All fresh and regional food.

Dilapidated structure, which is not at all comparable to the minimum standards of a hotel. Precisely for this reason the name Hotel Villa Adelaide is misleading. Place full of cobwebs and dust. Our room was invaded by mosquitoes, so much so that we had a small stove with a plate in the room which should have kept them away but which instead was of no use. But is it normal to have to sleep intoxicated by the smell of the stove?!? Non-existent staff. Dirty wardrobe in the room with crumpled and haphazardly thrown blankets inside. Terrible experience that is not worth the price spent at all.

Le Grand Rêve is a small family run B&B on the outskirts of the town of Chimay. The main draw is the Chimay brewery experience, about a 12 minute drive away in the countryside. Its only a 5 minute walk to the center of town; the old church with shops and cafes around it. We stayed in room Arthur. The room size is surprisingly large and quite nice. The bed was very comfortable. I hate firm beds and this one was just right. The bathroom was nice and larger than expected. The shower was a little strange, with the shower head off to the side making it hard to use. I had to contort my body and avoid slipping. There are no screens on any of the large and nice windows. We were there in June with perfect weather, but lack of screens made for some (but not too bad) bug incidents. One morning a bird flew into our bathroom. I got him out quickly without a problem.

The grounds have a beautiful "woods" area that you can walk or just admire from your bedroom window or the restaurant.

There is a restaurant on the ground floor that I would call a culinary or "foodie" French style establishment. They don't speak much English, but we could communicate well enough. Their offerings were beyond my usual tastes (that means VERY good). We could tell the cliental were people who came from all around to experience their offerings. These people really care about their food and work very hard to offer a great experience for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It appears the whole family (mom, dad, and son) plus some staff run the restaurant.

One negative seems to be their ability to use credit cards. Their card scanner only works on cards with built in security chips. Mine did not have a chip and was declined. Others have had this problem too. Hopefully this will improve over time, but be forewarned.

Stopped at this B&B for 2 nights. Very clean and quiet place but this is only possitive thing about this place. Too expensive for what you get. Breakfast is basic and shouldn't be the same every morning. A kettle in the room would be nice so you can make yourself a cup of coffee in the morning. We had no running water first morning for which they appologised. Second morning there was water but was taking about an hour to run a bath.Would't advice friends are family to stop in this B&B. Stopped in cheaper places where we was getting more and better and stopped in more expensive places where we was getting excellent value for our money.

Response from Paponpiv, Propriétaire at Villa Adelaide

Yes, a terrible experience. Not really a hotel... Guess it is a B & B. Web site says hotel with restaurant . The restaurant is non -functional. Bath, shower does not work. Heard strange noises in the night, found a electric rodent repellent under bed. Breakfast no good. The cost was waived. Check out payment had to be cash....credit card machine was broken. Very disappointed in this place. surely ther has to be other places to stay in Chimay, If so, stay there!!!!

Lovely 'Maison du Maitre' on the outskirts of Chimay, across the valley from the 'old town'. Lovely room - eat well at in-restaurant at a reasonable price - well worth a visit. Five minutes drive from the old town by the chateau.

The decor is beautifully designed and executed. In some ways very modern, it complements the age of the building and sets off the original features perfectly. Our room was in the tower but not the one at the top - it was so well appointed and the bathroom was exceptional. There are wonderful tiles in the rooms and corridors. Breakfast was very filling with breads, home-made jams and local cheeses, all served in a dining room which still shows off some of the history of the house and reflects the local produce from the brewery of Chimay.
The hotel embarked on a new enterprise on the very night we were there - they opened a brasserie - unfortunately we weren't aware of it in time to book but it looks lovely. The 1st floor conservatory is 'being done up' and will look great when it's completed.
Be cautious if you are searching for it - the Villa Adelaide name appears only on the front door. Look instead for Le Grand Reyve or Les Jeunes Pousses (which I believe is the name of the brasserie).
It is within easy walking distance of the town of Chimay and only a few miles out from the Scourmont Abbey (home to the brewery of Chimay) and to the Auberge Poteaupre which is the Espace Chimay visitor center a mile or so from the brewery.
Which all makes for a lovely hotel in a superb region of southern Belgium.

Lovely hotel, nicely renovated with a wonderful garden. Perfect overnight stop on a 'beer tour' of Chimay and surroundings. Friendly staff and good value! The town of Chimay has a wonderful castle which is a must - the theatre in the castle is a gem.
