I heard so much positive things about the Lake District and its kind people, when I booked a trip a few days before for a weekend via booking.com. However my dream of visiting the Lake District was dashed when I had an emergency because my daughter fell seriously ill and I did not know what was wrong with her. Despite...

Discovered by accident on Laterooms when looking for somewhere for a short break and what a great find! We were very well looked after by Lesley and team and we really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast is a bit of a hobby of mine and the full English (or should that be full Cumbrian?) is up there with some of the...

Stayed here whilst working in the area. The quality and cleanliness of the property was excellent and the welcome from the owner was warm without being overbearing. The setting is pretty spectacular. Can't be faulted.

We had a lovely stay, the suite room we had was excellent. My wife has booked again for later in the year as she really appreciated the standards. The views across the Kent Estuary were brilliant and the breakfast was first class.

Lesley the proprietor was very friendly, and greeted me on arrival. Beautiful hotel. So many extra details that were much appreciated, dressing gown, home made flap jack, good quality coffee and toiletries. The hotel was immaculate and luxurious. The mini bar is a great extra, although we didn't make use of this, due to the pub near bar :) Close...

Difficult to know what further comforts a Guest House could provide more than what's here. Mini-bar in the room, even. The lounge, and some rooms, have a marvellous view over the estuary, the room and bed were cosy, the owner and staff friendly and efficient and the breakfast variety immense including vegetarian choices. Handy location, about 10 mins walk from...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Last night at The Enjoy England for Excellence Ceremony we were awarded Gold for the Best Bed and Breakfast in England by Visit England. The position here is fabulous: a vast sky, a pretty village, the Kent estuary spilling into Morcambe Bay. Huge views shoot off to the Lake District, where distant peaks take to the skies. You're at the end of the road, more likely to be disturbed by commuting birds than a car, so sit on the terrace and watch the train puff across the viaduct or follow a flock of geese as they sweep through the valley. As for Number 43, interiors shine after a total renovation. You get glossy books and great views in the sitting room, then an honesty bar in the dining room, where delicious communal breakfasts set you up for the day: freshly squeezed orange juice, baskets of patisserie, porridge with honey and sugar, the full Cumbrian works. Bedrooms vary in size, but all are elegant with warm colours, fabulous linen, excellent beds, sparkling bathrooms. Two suites have the view, one has a free-standing bath by the window in its en-suite. ... more   less
