My husband and I love Arnside and this is a beautiful old building overlooking the bay. The kitchen has been updated and I loved the big table arrangement in the kitchen. It was lovely sitting all together at breakfast and supper exchanging our adventures of the day and being able to get a beer ! However the bed in the...

Stayed with walking friends, great hostel, warm, good drying room and good facilities, looked great for kids, although ours were at home, enjoyed seeing other parents tormented though. Ate out but menu looked good and reasonable, breakfast was spot on with fruit options, well stocked bar with the pub only 5 minutes walk away. The hostel was very clean with...

9 of us and a dog had a weekend here, the first thing to say is what fabulous staff they have, friendly, welcoming and gave us excellent advice when we asked. The building is truly lovely BUT we all felt it needs a bit of money spent on it in terms of updating, decorating etc and it could do with...

We rarely write second reviews of the same establishment but we had such a different experience on our return visit to YHA Arnside that we felt that we should. On this occasion we stopped in the 'porters room' which is located on the ground floor (on our first visit we stopped in the 'hobbit' room in the attic). The porters...

Good location. Nice staff on reception. Bed had dirty linen still on from previous occupant. Unable to eat in restaurant as was told cookers all broken, asked to book breakfast but informed that as I hadn't booked it online it wasn't possible! Bedroom door was hanging off frame. Games room in basement and pretty grim.

Over night stay here with 10 other. Staff were very helpful, friendly and having arrived late in the day, booked a table for us in a local restaurant who could accommodate us. The place was an old boarding school which meant plenty of rooms. This was the first YHA we had to both make up and strip our beds in ....

I and 10 friends stayed in the hostel for 1 night after doing the Cross Bay Walk. The hostel is a lovely building only minutes away from the promenade. Great sitting area in the gardens. The chimenea was lit especially for us. Plenty of games to be had. We played table tennis. Martin, his wife and staff were extremely helpful,...

The setting is fantastic and the views from the garden are great. The house itself needs updating, or even painted, failing that, a good clean. The shower in our room was broken and not recently. The duvets and pillows were past their best - pillow protectors would have helped.. it is good value but it needs remedial action.

I have just stayed at this hostel as part of a reunion group who get together in hostels twice a year. Martin, the owner, has taken on a big project in this beautiful and well positioned hostel, and yes, there is still work to be done. However, there are loads of plusses, lots of little extras (+ WiFi), and what...

We stayed in this independent hostel (which is linked to the YHA) for one night. We were slightly concerned to see a coach load of children pull up at the same time as us but were pleasantly surprised to find that that we couldn't hear any noise from our double room (with a double bed) in the attic! It was,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Arnside Independent Hostel and Study Centre is a family owned hostel which maintains links to the former owners the Youth Hostel Association (who continue to market our tourist offering as YHA Arnside). Located in a large Edwardian house above Morecambe Bay, we are perfectly situated and boast great views of the Lake District mountains. A real find for budget accommodation, group, individuals and family breaks if you love Lake District holidays but could do without the summer crowds. It's a good touring base for activity breaks in the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, and if you're into walking holidays there are plenty of walks nearby. Take the opportunity of a guided cross-bay walk and experience being where the tide will cover for a different view of Morecambe Bay, a different view of life. Also fantastic, is the walk round the coast and back over the Knott, just 2 hours but it seems like a whole walking holiday! Those looking for birdwatching holidays will enjoy the RSPB reserve, Leighton Moss and butterfly lovers shouldn't miss Arnside Knott. Spend the evenings relaxing in the lounge, tv room, 5* self catering kitchen or terrace or choose from a large selection of indoor and outdoor games as well as pool or darts in the games room and enjoy good food in our licensed restaurant or drinks from our well stocked bar. ... more   less
