We arrived Padron, expecting nothing flash. And then the hotel! OMG, it is awesome. A magnificent old chateau (circa 1500) turned into an elegant and classy hotel. I am of the opinion it is worthy of 5 stars. There was a bunch of us in the Camino group, and we were all blown away! Breakfast also was awesome!

Upon driving into this section of the town of Padron, one is not ready for the exquisite grand mansion that greets them as they drive through the gates from the main road. The grounds and common areas of the hotel are beautiful and one cannot help but feel like they are in for a pampered experience here. It is because of this that the rather simple decor of the rooms are a bit of a surprise. None the less, it is comfortable and quiet, and easy to get around from this location. It was rainy when we stayed here, so we did not get to enjoy the large pool.

Beautiful hotel in an historic building on The Camino is wonderful Galicia. While a tad short on staff, we were made very comfortable by the efforts of Maria, who seemed to be single handedly - and most graciously - running the place. Tastefully decorated, nicely appointed rooms. Our groups of six enjoyed the refreshing pool after a long day of walking. Kudos to the staff who worked very hard to ensure we had a nice stay, despite needing more hands on deck.

A beautiful hotel in the middle of nowhere. However, our stay was totally spoilt by a rude and spiteful member of staff . Everyone was lovely except for one staff member with black curly hair . She didnt like it that we sat in the sun in the seating area at the back , chastised us verbally and went out of her way to be unhelpful and smilingly vindictive for the rest of our stay . She made us wait excessively and repeatedly in the restaurant while being overly attentive to other diners . When we asked for a second glass of wine with pur mains ( willing to pay for it ) she indicated she would bring it but didnt . Instead she made a point of stripping the tables surrounding us and deep cleaning them . Following that she then made a point of removing all the open wine from the dining room and putting it away . The food was nice but our treatment left a nasty taste. Needless to say, we were not willing to put up with this treatment any longer and left , relocating to the bar where we were treated better. Lovely room , comfie bed and breakfast . I believe this staff member would deny the way she treated us if asked , but my friend and I know how she made us feel and we are convinced it was deliberate !

Beautiful building and was looking forward to a comfortable night However this hotel has the air of a business being run by people who are not naturally of the hotel industry. When one arrives exhausted from a 26k walk in 35 degree heat one hopes for at least a welcome and perhaps an offer of a glass of water to avoid keeling over in reception. The chap on teh front desk was not particularly in the mood to move nev mind help. Later - "what's the history of this building..?" - "you can scan the QR code..". "Oh, thanks...". Very few beds round teh pool. Pool looked as though it needed cleaned.
Breakfast was ordered as a picnic. It was pretty dire and we threw away most of it.
"The phrase "fur coat and nae knickers" came to mind. Comfortable, clean, intriguing but lacking.
Meal in adjoining restaurant was ok but expensive.

Beautiful surrounding but low on service. No lunch menu of importance and very low competence of staff. We don't have cognac in the bar on 4 star hotel, stay clear imo. There is a fundamental lack iinthe customer understanding, And it's 15 minutes backwards in the amino.

Still on the Camino, and I wanted a hotel with a big garden to do some Pilates. Therefore we have opted for Hotel Monumento Pazo. While the building is quite impressive, the hotel is not that posh as you we thought it will be. Which is good for pilgrims, you are not out of place. But overall, I would not recommend it for hikers. It's another 15-20 minutes walk from the lovely center, the room is just average. We could hear the neighbours talking, which is surprising with this thick walls. While the price for a sandwich is 3-times that of other places, the quality is 3-times lower (didn't think that these toast breads with a slice of cheese are still served...). The good thing: the lounge for a drink is relaxed and you can play cards there :-)

We were checked in efficiently enough but certainly not very warmly. The staff is certainly lacking any warmth or welcoming feeling.

The matrass was way to hard, feeling like a bed in a prison. We couldn't sleep. It kept us awake for hours.

The room was clean but there was mold in the badroom and the toilet brush was missing.

Don't stay in the front. The fountain looks beautiful but makes a lot of noise during the night. It makes you have to go to the toilet all night.

Breakfast was fine but there were flies around the food. The emergency exit was blocked by a table. Very few vegetarion options in the restaurant.

WiFi works for emailing, but way to slow for watching Netflix. TV screen is 15 years old, very outdated and small.

While enjoying the sunshine on the beds at the swimming pool suddenly the sprinklers started to water the garden without any warning. When we told the receptionist she said: ow yes the pool closes at 8 pm..I can't do anything about the automatic sprinkler... we never saw a sign about closing times and it felt like a cold shower. Literally and figuratively... Just like the rest of our stay!

This hotel a very impressive old building although we where glad we only booked 1 night...

This emblematic building, which dates back to the sixteenth century and was the former place of leisure of the bishops of Santiago de Compostela, is enclosed in 15.000 m2 of forest and gardens in the centre of the village of Dodro, only 1 km or so from the city center of Padron
Recently refurbished as a hotel, the well-thought out interior design both of its rooms and of the common areas is a blend of tradition and modernity.
I stayed two nights (rate 65€ per night) and really appreciated the design of this beautiful hotel. The architecture is simply perfect.
However, the management of this hotel is underperforming in several ways
1) The music in the hotel is awful old-fashioned and lacks every taste, when we mentioned this to the manager, he turned of his face and looked very angry, he told this this was ...a concept ! (not a concert :)
2) There is not enough staff in this hotel : the receptionist manages as well the bar, takes care of washing and ironing the clothes and makes the breakfast. This results in hilarious situations, Fawlty Towers TV series alike
- I asked the receptionist (only speaking Spanish) to wash my clothes. They explained me their dryer was not working and they told me they couldn't ensure that my clothes would get dry in time because it was humid outside. The receptionist woke me up at 2 am in the morning as he just ironed my clothes. When I asked him why he has to wake me at 2am, he told me that he can't just put my clothes in front of my door (although my room 107 was the only room in the corridor next to the reception) and that he needs my signature on the receipt. He apologized at least 10 times...hilarious. He really looks like Manual of the Fawlty Towers TV series
- The breakfast room opens at 0730. When my friends and me entered the breakfast room....nothing was ready ? The receptionist-barkeeper told me he has been working until 5am, ironing clothes ( I knew that!) and serving late customers of a wedding party and that he has fallen asleep afterwords. With his shirt out of his trousers, he started to run around the breakfast room in order to prepare us breakfast apologizing over and over again..... in Spanish of course. The breakfast is poor, no eggs or whatsoever only bread (pre baked)... not in line with the great design of the hotel
3) I invited my two friends for a dinner in the restaurant. The quality of the food was superb, the waiter (who has also some functions in the hotel, seems he is the hotel manager ) is a very strange person. I ordered a good bottle of Spanish wine of 1995, he congratulated me with my choice. Than this happened, he decanted my bottle of red wine but left almost a glass in the bottle. I thought he would decante the remaining part as well afterwards after the "bosum" bottomed (which is normal). I went to the restroom and when I came back...the bottle had disappeared which the remaining part to be decanted..... it looks like the hotel manager, who seems a wine lover, has drunk the remaining part of the bottle himself. I was not sure how to react, I asked him when he came out of the kitchen again if the wine tasted well...and he just smiled. Hilarous, this is John Cleese as Mr Fawlty himself.
Dining in Spain happens late and as we were the latest guest, Mr Fawlty (that is how we now called him) started to give us signs that it was time to leave (he cutted the music, started to turn down the lights, etc...)
It is a great hotel from architecture, the price is cheap, the food in the restaurant is excellent, but as mentioned the staff lacks any credibility. We thought at several moments that this was a "hidden camera show", but apparently it wasn't.

This hotel/former castle or fortress is very nice. This would have received 5 stars, but our room had the tiniest of windows; hence, very little natural light and poor air circulation. The window was one of those that a cannon might point out of; hence the size. The food was fine for dinner and breakfast - nothing special, but acceptable.

This was arranged by caminoways.com with whom we booked high end accommodations.
