We stayed here overnight waiting for our connection.

Shuttle bus was east.

Rooms are good

I would recommend this as a stop over.

Nice to watch the planes come over.

Room service was quick and food good.

A spontaneous decision to tack the Hunter Valley onto a business trip in Sydney saw us madly searching for accomodation. It turns out a KD Lang concert at Tempus Two winery had booked out most of the valley but , as fate would have it, we stumbled across the quaint and convenient heritage-listed Branxton Hotel.

No longer a hotel, it has no liquor license and only serves breakfast, the Branxton has had a major reno and been reborn as an upmarket B&B in the midst of the Hunter fringe town of Branxton. Away from more popular tourist towns of Pokolbin and Maitland, but still an easy 10-20 minute drive to most wineries we found The Branxton more than adequate for our needs.

Our room, the King Arthur, contained a very comfy queen bed, fluffy bathrobes, cable tv, chandeliers and opened out to a large verandah overlooking green pastures. We woke each morning to the Cock crowing and the cows mooing and were perhaps more fortunate than those in the more expensive front rooms which overlook a truck riddled highway.

The communal bathrooms proved a tad too popular at times but waits were short and water pressure high. I'm not sure how cold it might get in there in Winter but I think the fluffy bathrobes might come in handy !

Breakfast is served in a charming traditional style dining room and consists of lovely fresh country fare, along with friendly and attentive service from Penny and her staff.

All in all a great find and one that we will definately recommend to others. Better than 4 star but not 5 ( which is overused anyway)

It's pretty hard to find reasonably priced accommodation in the Hunter, especially over peak season and for one night only. The Branxton Hotel solves this problem. Yes, all bar one room share a bathroom. But for a night or two this shouldn't be a problem for most, plus the bathrooms are spotlessly clean and the monsoon shower was amazing! Rooms are small, but are all you need when spending all day at the wineries. Clean, nice linen, and tv with some foxtel channels (no movies though).

Basic continental breakfast in the morning, but it does the trick.
Beds were a little small for my 6 foot 4 partner, but still comfortable.

Recommend the pub across the road. Busy on a Saturday night with live music. A real ocker Aussie pub! Love it!

Staff are very friendly too.

This room was very basic but clean. Considering this, I found the price to be expensive. We could walk to the local bakery and cafe for breakfast. This hotel is for convenience rather than pleasure. The third bed (single) was tight outside the bathroom so it was not very well designed and they did not supply enough towels for the number of people staying in the room.

We stayed at the Branxton Hotel on a Saturday night after a vineyards tour. Penny at reception was very warm and welcoming and was very accomadating when we asked if we could turn up early to put our gear in the rooms (providing there was no one in the room from the night before). The rooms were very plushy and newly refurbished - way above standard for this priced accom.
Only one room has an ensuite, however the shared bathroom were immaculate - even nicer than some 4 star accom we have stayed in. Although it was winter everything was nice and cosy with the heater and plushy carpet. The decor of the building is gorgeous - heritage style with class (not a tissy B&B like the Hunter is renowned for).
Grab a room on the balcony - PARTY!
Book in advance for nearby restuarants on SAT night, otherwise eat at the pub accross the road - 4 star pub food!

Flash and older style building, the most comfortable bed I have every slept in!!! Had a shared bathroom but it was very clean as well. Also has Austar in the room too which others around this price don't have. Arrived late but found they had left the key out for me and told me where to find the room. Would recommend to everyone. Just wish I didn't have to leave so early otherwise would have enjoyed their breakfast too!

Recently stayed in the double room with ensuite. A lovely country hotel room. Small but comfortable. The King size bed was possible the most comfortable bed I have slept in. The room opened onto the back verandh of the hotel. The shower was excellent. Would definitely stay here again. If they served a cooked breakfast in the dining room this would be the complete package. Much more character than the large factory style resorts.

Had dinner at the Branxton Hotel last night. Had to wait over 20 minutes to order your meal at the counter. Long queue. I had the Veal with mash potato and vegetables. For $32.00 I expected more. Veal was very tough and over cooked. This is not a cheap eats pub, it is pricey for what it is. The Wine List looked good but was out of date. The wine i wanted was no longer available and the barmaid sold me a more expensive bottle.

You don't have a choice as the Branxton Hotel is the only place to go to eat and drink in this small town. They have a monopoly and charge what they like and make you wait a long time to order. My suggestion is to go to nearby Greta or Singleton where you have a choice.

The hotel downstairs doesn't look much, however don't let this put you off heading up the old stairs for a great feed. The servings are generous, the food tasty and the staff helpful. Good luck getting through the ribs! Recommended!

While staying in the area my business partner and I ate here twice, and both times was exceptional, and that was just the specials. Tues night we had the stampede special , steak, chips and salad, and Thursday. night the veal schnitzel . Both meals were brought out quickly by friendly staff even though it was really busy. If you go on the Thursday night they recommend you book as a it gets really busy. The menu looked good and we will be back to try a few meals off that over the next couple of weeks while we will be staying in the area.
