The onsen itself is not that big, with just 1 indoor bath and 1 covered outdoor one where you can see and smell the forest - if you lean forward, you might be able to catch a glimpse of the river way down below. There's also a small cold water pool and a nice sauna with a window also facing...

We had at very relaxing evening at the onsen, wonderfully located in the green on the verge of the mountains. Highly recommended escape from wirly Tokyo. A warning for westerners: visitors with tatoos are not allowed to enter the public onsen area.

This was our best day in Tokyo. We made the trip by public transport from Shinjuku,( via Tachikawa and Haijima then onto the last stop on the Itsukaich line, followed by a bus trip from Mushashi Itsukaichi). Took about 2 hours to get there. A super trip, saw no other foreigners from Haijima onwards. The area is mountainous and forested,...
