We stayed 3 nights at Residenza la torre and enjoyed so much our stay in Santo Stefano. The room was large and situated in the centre of this historic village in the mountains. Breakfasts were plentiful available in the room with an espresso maker. Our hosts organized a canoe trip for us on the Tirino river which was superb. Would highly recommend staying there.

Residenza La Torre is an Albergo Diffuso and, as such, our superior one-bedroom apartment was essentially a small house; no complaints there. This was our third stay in Santo Stefano and was the best yet; it lacked nothing in comparison to the Albergo Diffuso Sextantio (where we had previously stayed) and was a good deal cheaper, so definitely cost-effective. The kitchen was stocked and replenished with a good selection of breakfast foods (bread, fruit, cheese, prosciutto, pastries and more) and also had a Nespresso machine with milk frother and, crucially, a moka pot with good ground coffee.
The office/reception is a few streets away in the centre of the village, but it’s a very small village and so was no problem. And when we did have a problem; our door key snapped off in the lock; I just called on Whatsapp and the guy on duty came right over with a spare key and was able to remove the stub of the old one.
The first time we stayed in Santo Stefano was 2013 and it’s definitely busier than back then, but that’s a good thing being that the whole point of the Albergo Diffuso was to bring life back to an abandoned village. And it’s all relative; staying here for a few days still feels like stepping back in time to a pace and quality of life that’s a joy to experience surrounded by the beauty of this green heart of Italy.

I went to San steffano in hope of writing some academic work which demanded quiet and a good WIFI. I got more than I asked for. The manager was so veeeery helpful and I needed that helpfulness in the wake of the COVID 19 restrictions. Thank you so much. Highly recommended in every sense.

The apartment was adorable. It was like a step back in time, yet the kitchen included everything you may need for a comfortable stay. And Claudia provided so many goodies in the fridge as well as locally produced packaged and fresh baked goods, jams, etc. We couldn’t have asked for more.

We arrived on a misty Feb afternoon and were welcomed warmly. The apartment was perfect, and what was even better was being delivered candles to the door to bring some more light! Breakfast was lovely in the room, and we slept great. Thanks for having us !

I had a house for myself. Tiny, but a house. With a terrace. Right inside the "borgo", the historic center. Living Room/Kitchen downstairs, Bedroom/Bathroom upstairs.
In Winter it can apparently get really cold here, and given the fact that this village is built right into a steep rock, you'd wanna keep those houses small in order to survive.
There's been a lot of love spent on details, and you'll notice that immediately.
I wish I had stayed longer than 1 night, 3 or 4 would have certainly felt awesome.
There's a fridge, a kitchen, WiFi...
I don't even want to say anything nice because I don't want to spoil it (incredibly, it seems like this place hasn't been "discovered" yet and the odd elderly Italian couple are the only other tourists besides you).
I'd highly recommend it to lone travellers or couples in love.

Residenza La Torre consists of a few apartments that are distributed throughout a magical Medieval village high in the Apennine mountains, near Gran Sasso. It was a completely unique experience that I would recommend to anyone. The proprietor, Claudia, was so helpful. While checking out, we jokingly mentioned that we could not figure out how to work the gas stove in the apartment to make espresso in the morning. Claudia offered to take us to the local cafe for a coffee. The service could not be more personal that this!
The setting is in the mountains and is very peaceful. The village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio seems to have a growing tourist industry, with a few restaurants and artisans, yet remains unspoilt by tourism.
I hope to return sometime!

With no planning (we were on a bike trip), three of us turned up in Santo Stefano and failed to find anywhere obvious to stay. So we walked into town and very soon saw the reception for Residenza. The people were very helpful and within a couple of minutes we had the house over the alley, three bedrooms and a downstairs kitchen sitting room. Perfect. We went for a beer and by the time we got back there were local snacks and cereals ready for the next day's breakfast. The service was excellent, they even lent me a charging cable for the phone. WiFi was excellent and I got a good night's sleep.

Wonderful, cute, cozy, romantic, comfortable, very quiet and rustic B&B, hidden in the back lanes of the small hill town, Santo Stefano di Sessanio.

2 level apartment, with steep stairs to the bedroom and low overhead exposed wood beams upstairs. Downstairs, is a stocked kitchen, lounge and dining area, an open fireplace surrounded by natural stonewalls. Complete with great coffee, a coffee machine and cooking utensils.

Bathroom, while really small, is modern, clean and comes with the usual amenities. Bedroom is comfortable and warm. Only downside of the whole experience was the bathroom towels - while abundant and large enough, they were more like tea towels, not the nice fluffy ones.....

Breakfast is already provided at check in and is more than enough to be satisfied.

WiFi was fast, reliable and accessible anywhere in the apartment.

We visited in winter, so there were on 2 options to eat out in town. If you want greater choice, you'll need to drive to nearby towns. So be prepared for that. Parking is on the street on the edge of town, a short walk away.

Overall, a great option in a romantic apartment located in a scenic town. Not far from Rocco Calascio. Absolutely recommended.

Great place to stay in an interesting medieval town. The host was thoughtful, helpful and welcoming. The room was well appointed and very comfortable and peaceful to return to after our days out hiking. We would recommend Residenza La Torre and we will also return.
