We called in here whilst driving to Matlock. Never visited before but just saw the signage from the main road. Parking was a little limited. We chose from the extensive menu and we're pleased to see a large range of light bites. We chose gammon and salmon from the light bite section. The food was served promptly and was well...

Sitting in bar on last night: Came to Hayfield after an absence of 35 years to Climb Kinder scout again and visit surrounding areas . The Hotel was everything I was hoping for so much so I found myself booking an extra night on top of the two I had already booked. There is a 24hr access for guests by...

We were staying locally and were looking for a nice country pub in which to relax and enjoy some good food. The George Hotel fitted the bill perfectly, there was a really interesting menu, the food quality was excellent, very reasonably priced, and the staff created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The George doesn't pretend to be a "Gastro" pub,...

We've stayed here before: a good base for walking on Kinder and the surrounding hills. It's an old place: room sizes, ceiling heights, plumbing are all variable. On the downside, our twin beds were extremely lumpy, the shower was very cramped and the room was noisy: we could hear everything happening in the bar downstairs, including the gradually escalating row...

The food was very good. The service was quick and friendly. The pub is very full, so you need to book a table beforehand. The atmosphere in the pub was very authentic. I can recommend this pub with great pleasure.

We went for lunch today at the George Hotel in hayfield. One of us is disabled in a wheelchair but the pub was accessible and staff were really helpful. We all ordered steak and ale pie which was very reasonably priced and served with Chips and veg and really tasty gravy. The food was served piping hot and pie melted...

Had a lovely meal here, very varied menu, I had the lamb kleftiko which was lovely and the only time I have ever seen it on a pub menu in England. My husband had the fish and chips, also really nice. It has a really nice atmosphere and was quite busy even on a Monday night, always a good sign!

The George is a cosy, welcoming pub which offers excellent food at a very reasonable price. I've been in a few times now and enjoyed the friendly, relaxed atmosphere (and so has my Springer Spaniel). I'm told that the selection of real ale is also very good. Overall I would highly recommend this pub.

My partner, myself and my partners mother dined here last Thursday, we usually eat at a lovely pub/restaurant in Birch Vale (I wont name it) and they always do great meals but I have to say this particular night the Georges food eclipsed it! I had the Lamb Stifado and my partner had the mixed grill, all I can say...
