We were looking to break our journey somewhere near the Rhine Gorge and happened upon this place. Booking was straightforward via Booking.com and directions to find it worked well. (Garmin helped pin it down.) It is situated on a small "estate" and not immediately obvious as you approach some three km from the village of Lorch. This is an old Army camp converted into trading units, so a bit commercial looking. I think Zum Schmidt'e is the old Officer's Mess as the building is quite substantial. However to the visit. Welcome was warm and friendly and we were shown our room on the first floor (US speak 2nd floor). We had a large room which was not en-suite but the bathroom on the corridor was for our exclusive use so OK for a short stay. The room was clean and fresh and we had no complaints. There was a large bed plus two bunk beds so this would serve as a family room if needed. There was even a table and chairs provied so snacks would not be a problem. Decors was quaint and we think maybe done with children in mind. We liked it. Bathroom was huge. Two basins, Sep WC and even a couple of Urinals, hence my feeling about the history of the building. There was even a large Washing Machine for laundry purposes. Breakfast was taken in a huge room with a splendid buffet layout with every breakfast dish one could require. Supplies were more than enough and coffee and tea supplied freely. We enjoyed our stay at this friendly place and if in the area would return. If there was a down side it was lack of evening meal as this necessitated a drive into the village where our needs were more than well met. (We ate at an Italian restaurant and enjoyed it.)
