This is a surprising hotel - or 'Gasthof' (Guest house), in the small village of Lorch. We were misled by other signs and initially ended up at the owners' house. Look for the brown tourist signs, NOT the green wine signs. The rooms look newly done, everything in light coloured wood and pale colours. Lovely shower, and comfy bed. Quiet location for a good sleep. The delight was the restaurant. The family are wine growers, and Mrs is also a superb chef. If she tells you that something is tasty, believe her.I had one of the best trout (locally caught) dishes ever. Husband had the pig cheeks. So we had a good night's sleep after the superb meal. Not the cheapest place, but quality costs.
Compared to the 6 other hotels/guest houses we stayed in on our tour around Germany, Perabo's was rather disappointing. We had paid a (small) supplement for a 'comfort' room but the room we were given was very small - I kept banging my shins on the bed whilst trying to walk around it to get in! This may have been because the chap who showed us to the room realised that my husband was struggling due to his breathing problem in the 35 degree heat & gave us a room as close to the stairs as possible. Unfortunately, despite the statement on Booking.com that English is spoken at Perabo's, it is a very limited vocabulary English so it was difficult to check (& I was just grateful to have a room by that stage!). Dinner was interesting - the lady owner doesn't speak English so she got someone from the bar to try to translate - this amounted to "what you want to eat?"!! Together with my dictionary & another guest, we eventually managed to order. The veal steak was OK but rather ruined by very overpowering sauce - I didn't try a pud! Breakfast was also OK but coming down at 0900, we were getting a few hard looks from a member of staff who was obviously rather keen to clear it all away. The other thing is that Booking.com clearly show that the establishment accepts Visa & Mastercard but they refused to accept these when my husband went to pay - insisting on cash. Luckily we had enough but it could have been difficult - so do check first…
Perfect hotel and very hospitable owners! The atmosphere of joy and comfort is guaranteed there. Beautiful equipped rooms, good service, pleasant people. Breakfast is served always in time. You can easily feel the spirit of family there, support and warmth. Probably the best place to stay and see wonderful landscapes at Lorch am Rhein. Highly recommended.
Really good accommodation and food. Excellent wine from the Perabo winery. Very friendly and helpful people. Very good value. Lorch is a good centre from which to explore the Rheingau. It is quieter and less tourist-oriented than neighbouring Rudesheim but served by good transport links; trains and boats running regularly up and down the Rhine. It is on the Rheinsteig, the hiking trail that runs along the north side of the river through wine gardens and forests mainly at a level of between 200 and 300 metres above the river, so providing great views.
