The building was once a Covent which has now been beautifully converted and refurbished to a very high standard in the heart of old Alicante town.
We stayed two nights but wished it had been longer so that we could of taken more time in the spa and swimming pool.
The breakfast was Mediterranean style help yourself buffet with cheese, ham & pastries along with a fresh cooked options. (too much to mention), accompanied with as much juice, tea, coffee & champagne as you wanted , yes champagne.
The Santa Barbara Castle is a must visit with views all over the city. Also the Cathedral of St Nicholas. The beach is close by, very clean white sand. The harbour is nice to walk round with lots of restaurants & bars overlooking it.
There are also restaurants & tapas bars within walking distance of the hotel. The Fondillon bar/restaurant at the Hotel served excellent tapas.
We used trains & buses whilst here, very easy & cheap.
All in all our short break was not disappointing, we loved the whole feel of the Hotel & the city.
The staff did all they could to cool the room and were able to facilitate a room change the next day - to 203, which was far cooler and far quieter - overlooking the restaurants at the back of the hotel, and a quaint street. Only one other minor issue with the room - no real dressing table that my temporarily infirm wife could sit at..Odd!
The hotel in general is an oasis of calm in a vibrant city, and whilst the pool area is small, and occasionally "full" it was a lovely space to spend the day, or return to after a day in the city or on the beach etc...pool, jacuzzi etc..
The major plus point for the hotel is simply the quality of the staff employed there. Without exception, from the maintenance man to the room maid to those "manning" the reception, they could not have been more helpful. Our initial concerns about the room were sympathetically and helpfully dealt with by Diana, and Elena was a constant delight in checking all was well, and enquiring as to the health of my poorly wife. Such genuinely empathetic and friendly staff are worth their weight in gold.
The room was spotless and a good size, with a nice selection of toiletries, teas, coffee, etc & some extras like a little pouch with spare masks & hand gel in it. Very comfortable bed.
Breakfast was good. A well stocked buffet with a wide range to suit most people, from fruit, yoghurts & cereals, to breads, pastries & various spreads, to cold meats & cheeses. as well as a freshly made apple cake every morning. Good coffee & a range of fresh juices. Hot food such as eggs, waffles, etc can be ordered but we were happy with the buffet selection.
And the small heated pool on the roof (which luckily was covered in November) added a nice extra to our stay. Robes & slippers in your room & big piles of fluffy towels pool-side to use.
Location-wise it suited us perfectly for a city break. On a side street, close to lots of bars & restaurants, and just 2 mins walk from the prom. In summer, 5 minutes walk would see you on the beach. Very convenient for the airport bus too, less than 5 minutes walk from stop at Porta del Mar.
Happy to stay in this hotel again, & happy to recommend it to a friend.
The staff at this hotel cannot be faulted. They are professional, considerate and provide a friendly service. They pay attention to detail and are very accommodating.
The hotel itself is quite intimate, located in the old town and near to the promenade. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We stayed in a superior double and it was fine. We were on the front of the hotel and perhaps if we stayed again we would ask for a room at the back as there was a little bit of noise from the street cleaners in the morning. However this was all we heard.
The pool upstairs is small but has amazing views of the cathedral and castle. We had not expected a bigger pool because of where the hotel is so it was fine. Spa facilities were being refurbished when we stayed. The hotel was fully booked but did not feel busy or frantic.
The hotel bar was very nice also and served good tapas - which were not too expensive.
Very close to all amenities and a genuinely lovely stay.
I contacted the hotel prior to our visit to request a walk-in shower and discuss the hire of a mobility scooter, and the staff were very helpful and assisted with our requirements.
The location of the hotel is very central, and this makes it very easy to get around this lovely city, and we will certainly be returning to Alicantel and this beautiful hotel very soon.
Sincere thanks to ALL staff at the Hospes Amerigo, you are all an asset to this wonderful establishment.
Our only disappointment was the cold wet weather, which is out of everyones control!
All the staff are top drawer and it would be unfair to pick out anyone in particular. All of the staff we met couldn't have been more helpful or friendly.
Check-in is smooth with a free glass of Cava or water offered while you wait. If your room is not ready, they will phone you if you elect to go out and about in the town.
Breakfasts are worth the extra money and are a perfect start to the day as you are so well looked after.
The rooms are spacious with all the nice touches you would expect from a truly 5 Star hotel. Beds uber comfortable!
The pool deck at the top of the hotel is very relaxing and again, the service from the bar and pool staff is superb! You are in the rooftops of Alicante! There is a great view of the castle too which, is well worth walking up to using the zigzag pathway.
I will be coming back as it has become a real home from home for me, I can't recommend Hospes Amerigo highly enough!
Superb architecture awaits you as you walk through the main entrance.
A stunning restaurant which is just set to the side of the hotel , is in a magnificent covered courtyard, serving undoubtedly some of the finest fayre around.
The bedrooms are well laid out, and if youāre lucky you can get one with good views!
