Lovely family run business, we were picked up in Sutri as the hotel is a good 3km outside town , good comfy room and exceptionally quiet so good nights sleep guaranteed, food was traditional and great atmosphere in dining room as all guests were served at the same time , swimming pool was getting plenty of use which is a rarity for walkers , all in all a good no nonsense hotel

Dont stay here - at least not out of summer season. Our rooms were damp and cold, our meal was skimpy and the breakfast was a few cakes when we were heading off for a 27k plus walk. Our evening meal was included in the price but we were charged for water and herbal teas at exorbitant prices so a lot of extras that were not flagged up as such when being offered. I felt ripped off after staying here and it is a pity as everywhere else we stayed on the Via Francigena was lovely.

Response from AGRITURISMO MONTEFOSCO, Proprietario at Agriturismo Montefosco
Responded Apr 13, 2023
Good morning, I'm sorry you didn't have a good time. We would have liked these considerations to be made to us in person as well and not just using a keyboard. Our rooms are heated with a heater that is switched on from early morning and left on at 28° until the following morning, when the guests leave the room. Therefore, I don't see how a 25m2 room can be defined as cold. Extras, on the other hand, are charged separately as SPECIFIED in your reservation that you make with an agency and not directly with US. The dinner consists of: 1 first course, 1 second course, 1 side dish and 1 dessert and even here I don't see how it can be defined LITTLE. The Italian breakfast (we haven't ALWAYS prepared European breakfast) the agency that sells you the trip is also aware of this information and consists of more than 4 types of HOME-MADE cakes, sweet donut, croissant, 3 types of cornflaks , yoghurt, rusks, 2 types of jam and chocolate, butter, fruit juice and then milk, coffee and tea or various herbal teas. At this point I don't understand what you eat more to be able to feel satisfied enough. I wish you a good day

Generous, comfortable and clean room, friendly and welcoming hostess. Very nice rural view. Friendly cat. A working farm that doesn’t let guests get in their way. Valentina provided a mostly homemade menu that was very good. The main course for dinner did seem though like more of an antipasto plate, that being said the half- board was good and the ravioli excellent. Late season visit the pool was quite refreshing numbing my sore muscles. Ricardo provided a much needed ride for blistered feet.

What a lovely place, and so welcoming. We stopped one night here on our journey to Rome along the Via Francigena. What made it stand out was the genuine warmth of the welcome. We were hot and tired after a day cycling..And they plied us with bottles of cold water till we had cooled down sufficiently, then checked us in. The room was clean and well furnished. The dinner was heavily based on food grown on the farm and was delicious. Then to cap it off they got up early to.make us breakfast as we wanted an early start, and even made us a pack-up. It's a rarity to experience this kind of generosity and warmth of welcome. Grazie. Adrian Sinha

A little out of the way from town, however convenient to the Via Francigena. Excellent to jump into the pool after a long day of cycling. The room we stayed in on the lower level was an entire apartment including a full kitchen and separate bedroom. The dinner was hand-made by the proprietress and her mother. The red wine and the hazelnut spreads come right off the farm. No frills, but certainly authentic Italian. Non English speaking hosts.

We were walking the Via Francigena and this hotel was booked for us. The proprietor was very welcoming and friendly. We were able to work through the language barrier and even managed a laugh or two. Room was clean, with no frills. Food was hearty and grown right on the property for the most part. Getting to the hotel on foot, however, is not easy. The directions provided by Camino Ways were confusing, and even once we found the entrance one must walk through a rugged trail and climb a steep hill. We thought, "How could this be an entrance to a hotel?" and doubled back at least once before figuring out that this was indeed the way to the hotel.

This is a beautiful, rustic and idyllic piece of property in Italy. The rooms were spacious and the bathroom was giant ! The air conditioning was great and that was important because we were there at the hottest time in the summer. There are pictures of naked women hanging on the walls so children beware! The view from the rooms showed the gardens and it was a short distance to the swimming pool. The pool was cool but not chilly and very refreshing. It had chaise chairs and if you walked to the balcony you could see hundreds of acres of hazelnut trees. Just lovely ! Don't try to walk to it though, because its a steep and winding road to the top. The food and service was excellent. It is run by a family who lives above the restaurant. The mom was an excellent host and a wonderful cook. She served pasta and chicken that was to die for.

Stayed here one night while walking the Via Francigena to Rome. Rustic setting with animals on the premise - a giant sow was close by in her pen, but this is a farm, so not unexpected...and not unwelcome, as it added to the rural setting. You are definitely off the beaten path here. There are only 6-8 rooms, as far as we could determine. Our room was spacious and clean. The signora and her son and daughter in law apparently run the operation, and they were very pleasant and friendly, although there is a language barrier. The atmosphere was very conducive for our needs, as we sat outside our room on a bench at the end of our day's walk, smoking a cigar and enjoying a cocktail before dinner. By the way, the signora comes by and asks you what time you would like to eat, and you together determine a time that she will fix the meal. She also asks what you would prefer - offering a choice of a couple of entrees. Our room was spacious, but had no tub (vital for soaking tired feet!) and the shower handle fell off so that we could not use the shower. They eventually repaired it later that evening, but it took a "reminder" to the daughter-in-law. ("This is italy", right?) Dinner was good - country food, not particularly fancy, but hearty and filling. Breakfast was also good, prepared and served by the signora. Nice people, interesting setting, good experience.

Stayed a night here as part of my walk on the Via Francigena. Warning: it is over 3km from Sutri town but if you're on the VF, this saves you the mileage the next day. Lovely sized room with own verandah. Owners were very friendly, even though they did not speak much English. As it was just crossing over to spring, much of the area was still coming out of winter. Had dinner and breakfast here as well and the food is yum! Would be a great place to use as a base in summer, especially for families or big groups - the space gives you the privacy you need, yet accommodates group socialising. Having a car would be definitely a bonus.
