Words cannot express how awe inspiring this place is. Worth every penny you have! Food was exceptional. Our guide, Landon was absolutely phenomenal! His expertise in animal behavior allowed us to get right up next to the animals. His tracking skills let us see more than we thought possible. It was almost surreal how amazing this place is. Even though...

Beautiful place with amazing accommodations and food, and a huge diversity of animals. It's a great place to go for your first safari or if you have been to several other places before. We were especially impressed by our safari guide, Divan. He was so warm and engaging with all members of our group. There were those in our group...

It's more like Glamping than Camping. The tents are like 6 star hotel rooms with that scary feeling of being in the wild. The guides that took us all over the reserve in open vehicles were extremely knowledgable and very pleasant. The food was also very good. If you're scared of being cut off from the world don't worry. There...

We stayed 2 nights at Marataba Lodge. Experience was outstanding - very warm welcome, cosy and comfortable tents, exquisite food, interesting boat trip, relaxing spa treatment, very knowledgable and friendly Ranger. Saw a lot of wildlife. Marataba delivered at the highest possible service standards.

We had such a lovely weekend. The tented accommodation fits beautifully within the bush surroundings. The rooms are lavish yet comfortable and we loved the decor. The staff were fantastic and we enjoyed the food. Only suggestion would be for the kitchen to stock Tabasco and fresh chili. Favorite spot was watching the elephant herds wonder down to the watering...

Wow! Where to begin with Marataba Safari Lodge, from being greeted with a fresh cool towel and genuine happiness to see us arrive to leaving with a packed breakfast for our car journey back to the Airport! Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Marataba is a malaria-free 23000 hectare private concession within the Big5 Marakele National Park (Limpopo, South Africa). Just four hours from Johannesburg, this is a sanctuary where busy people can find themselves again by connecting with nature. We were rendered breathless by the dramatic Waterberg mountains, vast plains, rich animal diversity and winding rivers cutting through the landscape of the Marakele National Park. Rich red mountain rock meets lush green plains (where you will find yellowwood and cedar trees, 5m high cycads and tree ferns). All of the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats, as well as an amazing variety of birds (including the largest colony of endangered Cape vultures in the world, with more than 800 breeding pairs) have settled here. Marataba Safari Lodge is a simple extension of the natural environment beyond its walls - rich, bold, organic and patently magnificent. Whether you prefer your own company or that of new-found friends, there are a number of spots from which to soak up the view - hammock, pool lounger or grassy patch. On the menu for your pleasure is a smorgasbord of activities from which to choose. Whether game drive, walking trail, sunset river excursion on Miss Mara, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place. ... more   less
