Stayed here for 4 nights on business. Staff not welcoming at all, rather unfriendly I would say mainly, apart from the bar guys, who were doing a good job. Room was disappointing from a 4 star hotel. Food was good and tasty at the bistro - haven't tried the other restaurant, seemed too posh for my style. All in all,...

We spent two nights here mid-week in September at a good price. Beautiful, traditional old mansion with tasteful decoration and very helpful staff. Good choice of food for breakfast in the Orangery at tables with starched white tablecloths. Evening food in Bistro was also good and very convenient. Although there was an ongoing wedding celebration, our room was quiet. We...

I arrived at noon, hoping the hotel would allow a wedding guest to check in a bit earlier than the 2pm time. The wedding was to begin at 2:30pm and I needed to get dressed and ready. I asked politely to two of the hotel attendants if there was any way I could check in earlier and they kept all...

Hello travelbeacon, As is stated on all literature and guest correspondence, our check-in time is 2pm. We can however enable a handful of bedrooms on earlier check-in, but that is by prior arrangement. Usually for any older guests, or those arriving with young children... If somebody has occupied a bedroom the night before, we obviously need to service. Such were...

Hello KingsKnowe, Many thanks for your kindness, and delighted to hear that you enjoyed your visit. We celebrated our Golden wedding with friends and family in the Pop Up Bistro last month. The service from the hotel from the time we booked via Sarah, event organiser to the staff who set up the rooms, prepared the excellent meals and provided great and helpful service throughout the entire evening was first class. I personally feel your comments made to a local lady celebrating her 35th wedding anniversary were horrible!

I fully support dawn t on this and feel your response is condescending in the truest sense of the word, you appear to show an attitude of patronizing superiority when you state, " Balbirnie's Snr Manager in charge of Guest Services, has already gone a country mile to do everything possible to exceed what any logically thinking guest would consider as truly wonderful service"

How dare you? this part of your statement, "logically thinking guest" is an insult to dawn t and your lifeline in your chosen career, hospitality - GUEST SATISFACTION! What gives you the right to be this demeaning and make such an arrogant statement ?

When you book the Orangery at 8-00pm you expect the Orangery at 8-00pm and not pathetic excuses on one's special night saying you were busy. As dawn t specifically points out, you weren't busy/fully booked when she arranged their anniversary event.

Is it the fact dawn t is simply a local lass spending what could be classed as an inconsiderable amount of money in your establishment in comparison to the larger parties, that she is relegated to second/third class service whilst the larger groups receive a better class of service, I hesitate to use the words first class as it doesn't apply unless every guest is satisfied and, as this event experienced by dawn t shows, that was not the case.

This response is purely my personal opinion at the way you have handled, or mishandled this complaint. I hope you do host dawn t again, should she choose to visit, and get it right next time.

Lastly, ponder this, most people get married once. But after that they celebrate that event annually, perhaps you need to consider this as a more important, and consistent, alternative revenue stream than you currently seem to.
