Very nice hotel in reasonable price. Great European style breakfast. Clean, large and comfortable rooms with only Japanese channels ... with high speed internet you can be quite comfortable. 3min walking distance to the university. 5min Starbucks and 24h marker right around the corner. Highly recommended! Lots of restaurants. High quality cosmetics in the room.

Spent nine days here during a conference visit to Todai recently. Situated between Hongosanchome and Todai-mae, and a two minute walk from the university gates, it is in an ideal position for the university and a convenient position for most of the city (though 3 trains are required to get to/from Haneda). Friendly, English-speaking staff, and a nice room, though... More

Echoing what other reviewers have stated, this hotel is located in a very quiet, peaceful residential neighborhood. There is no street noise at all, which is a blessing in Tokyo. Yet it is a short walk to two subway lines and a do-able (~25 min.) walk to the JR and Keisei stations at Ueno. Directions in a prior review are... More

I believe most people stay here because they are visitors to Tokyo University. If you are, its location is perfect -- just 3 minutes' walk to the Red Gate. If you are not, still this may well be a good option. I must say that the booking was arranged by Todai and I am not sure if they have a... More

The hotel is located in a very tranquil part of Tokyo close by the campus of Tokyo University. The rooms are relatively spacious for a Japanese hotel so a big guy like me can turn around without scraping his shins. I guess most of the guests are visiting academics or parents of Tokyo U students so it is peaceful and... More

I liked this hotel quite a lot. My room was large enough to feel comfortable. Everything I needed such as toiletries, hair dryer, water cooker, ironing board was present. The bathroom was smallish but had all I needed and plenty of hot water. Wifi was on perfect working order. Personel was friendly and helpful. Breakfast is both for Western and... More

Forest Hongo is part of the Sunroute chain, but gives the impression of being a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel. I walked from JR Ueno Station to the Forest Hongo in about 20-25 minutes, via Kasuga and Hongo Avenues. After three nights at the Forest and two days at Tokyo University, I walked back to Ueno Station through the university campus and... More

We stayed at the hotel for three nights. The hotel is situated on a tiny square, two minutes from the main gate of the Tokyo University, ten minutes from the metro. Rooms are good, quiet, and bathrooms really great. The breakfast is wonderful and provides excellent Japanese and European options.

Staying in Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda

Neighbourhood Profile
Ochanomizu / Akihabara / Kanda
Ochanomizu boasts its academic foundations starting with Yushima Seido, the birthplace of modern day Japanese education. The area has kept its college town feel with several university campuses. If you head towards Jinbocho, you'll find musical instrument and sports equipment shops, and an area of used bookstores for students and anyone interested in literature and the arts. Akihabara is well-known for its computer and electronic goods stores, and is now hugely popular as the must-visit mecca for people interested in anime and games. Kanda is an office district where you can find loads of reasonably priced izakayas popular with professionals who stop to eat and drink before making their way home.
