In advance, buy a five-day pass on Japan Railways. Can only be done from overseas via internet. On arrival at Narita Airport, travel on the airport express train to Tokyo main station. Change to the shinkansen bullet train to Nagano. The train to Nagano must arrive before 4 p.m. for you to take the next step. In nagano catch the bus outside the train station directly to the hotel. It drops you off 50 yards away at the Terminus. There is no way you can get lost. Full details of this itinerary are at the hotel website. It is simple. You are even given alternative numbers of trains and times. Be aware that if you arrive at Naga no later than 3:45 pm you cannot catch the last bus, and the taxi fare to the hotel is about 15,000 Yen or 150 US dollars. Plan accordingly. The return is the same itinerary in reverse. The JR pass saves money and also allows for one day of additional travel.
