A family friend arranged the room for me, as my existing lodgings were not in a convenient location for my trip. The room was small but completely sufficient for what I needed. This hotel is directly above the Mejiro subway station, right on the Yamanote subway line. Included with my room were breakfast tickets for the restaurant on the main...

This is a business hotel in a relatively quiet location, with good connections to buses and trains, making it easy to reach any destination in Tokyo. It's not a luxury hotel so room was small but everything worked except wi-fi, which was intermittent. The staff were helpful restoring a connection. They are also terribly polite but not so willing to...

Stayed 3 nights in June. Rather basic and dated room. Very poor wifi connection in room. Convenient location next to a JR Station. My room was not facing the railway and it was already pretty noisy when the express train was passing through. Window could be opened slightly to let fresh air in. Breakfast was adequate. Good value for money...

I have stayed at Mets Mejiro Hotel twice. Both time my stay has been pleasant. It is very convenient to Gakushuin University across the street. The hotel also is very convenient to the JR line so there is easy access to the train system. It is on Mejiro Dori, a major street, with access to convenience stores, restaurants, bars, a...

The hotel is located right next to the Mejiro station, which was such a blessing as we were travelling with quite a bit of luggage. Mejiro is also on the Yamanote line which connects some of the major areas of Tokyo together, one stop away from Ikebukuro and 25 minutes away from Tokyo station—which is convenient. So if you're looking...

There are basically 2 hotels in Mejiro and this is one of them. First, Mejiro is always my favourite place for accommodation when I visit Tokyo. It's on the JR Yamanote Line, 3 stops from Shinjuku and 1 stop from Ikebukuro. So, it's very convenient for going to almost all places (shopping, museum, and sight-seeing) in Central Tokyo. And Yet,...

It's on the JR Yamanote line Mejiro station, just side by side. Managed by JR. Very clean, quiet and well-equipped, even with free WiFi AP. We stayed at a double room, which was not spacious, but larger than other Japanese business hotels. I liked the bed linen and pillows especially, because I could get sleep very well. Usually, I can...

Very conveniently located right next to Mejiro metro station (JR Yanamote line), this hotel is in a pleasant residential corner of Tokyo. The rooms are typical for Tokyo- small but immaculately clean and well equipped. They should work on making wifi readily available throughout the hotel though. Don't ask guests to set up a router in their rooms (that's too...

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.

“Try to stay away from the room wherein the cleaners gather for preparing their work. But, as usual, the Japanese workers are very professional and quiet. So, not really a problem but just that you'll bump into them”

“My room was looking down the platform of Mejiro station. The trains come and go, but the noise was ignorable on the 7th floor. The other side might have view of Gakushuin University, which is old and famous for the school of Japanese royal family.”
