PROs: It's cheap. The location is quite good. Capsules are big enough to keep your luggage inside. It has ladies floors. CONs: It smells terribly of cigarette smoke as people smoke in the capsules (officially no smoking, though). There is almost zero air ventilation of the capsules. Expect to wake up in your own humid steam in the morning. Add...

Yikes! I stayed in the Green Plaza previously (male only) and wanted my female friend to have a chance to stay in a capsule hotel. But this place was GRIM. Grimy, old, seedy, and with people smoking in the dorms. The type of place you'd need a shower after the shower. Zero atmosphere. Skip the "experience". It was okay for...

If you're a solo traveler looking for a cheap room in Tokyo, this is the way to do it. There are few capsule hotels that allow females, and this one has an all-female floor! It's in the Asakusa area, which is an interesting and historic area of Tokyo. Remember, Tokyo addresses are a little difficult to find, so be sure...

I stayed here for a night a few years ago. I booked my stay for the night of the Sumida River fireworks, so that I wouldn't have to trek all the way back to where I was staying through the hundreds of thousands of people. It turned out to be a great decision, because I was in my capsule within...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
