Ten minute walk from Nippori Station to Ryokan which is stop for Narita airport train. Well run establishment which is situated in a pleasant and quiet residential area. Good English spoken. Fair price and quality room. We had integral bathroom on 3rd floor. Easy access to a variety of food outlets. Beer available at popup street bar nearby. Two minute...

This Ryokan is situated in a really nice and friendly area, 5 minutes walk from the subway and 15 minutes from the Ueno park. And on their website they even put a little video to show how to find the hotel ! The little market next to the hotel is authentic (you must try the Donuts Cats Tails in this...

Maybe we expected more considering the reviews we read on TripAdvisor, but we were a little disappointed. The rooms are tatami covered and we slept on futons, which were goodl. The bathroom was very small with a simple toilet and small shower. We had free wi-fi and there is a dining area in the lobby. We also had little refrigerator...

We stayed here for 2 nights after our flights from Chicago. It is about a 10 minute walk to a J rail station. Our room had western style bathroom which I did insist on with our lodging. There is a arcade(Japanese version of a strip mall) with multiple restaurants in a 2-5 minute walk from the inn. Lodging was reasonably...

The layout of the Japanese room was really good with its own western style bathroom for a bit more privacy. The staff were helpful, location really good. There is a 7/11 and drug store close by. Plenty of shops, restaurant/cafes nearby also. Really good Fukusuke Sake bar up the road, and Nagomi Chicken Restaurant. Nippori station is not too far....

From the moment we walked through the door we knew that this was a special place. The welcome was incredible from a gentlemen who spoke very good English. He explained everything so clearly and took us to the room. The room has air-conditioning but in February we needed it warm. The room is Japanese style and the beds were so...

A minute walk from metro station (Sendagi, one station away from Nippori; within a walk from Ueno) and surrounded by a quiet neighborhood, this simple japanese-style hotel is great. One kombini is across the street and many cafes around.

On my first-ever visit to Tokyo and Japan, I wanted to get a lodging that would be memorable and solid without breaking the bank. After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor and elsewhere, I canceled an existing reservation in nearby Kuramae, and booked at Annex Katsutaro. After four nights of stay here, I was extremely pleased. - The Basics - The...

A great base for us to stay and explore this lovely area and other parts of Tokyo. Brilliantly located near three train stations including the Yamanote line as well as buses. Also perfect for restaurants, galleries, shrines, temples, Yanaka ginza Yanaka cemetery and the winding narrow streets. Ryokan itself spotless, our room had everything we could want and the staff...

Annex Katsutaro is in the wonderful heart of Yanaka, an old part of Tokyo close to many important links but away from the hustle and bustle of places like Shibuya. Clean, simple and tidy, this is a place I always recommend to others visiting Japan. With amenities like laundry, free wifi and various subways nearby, it makes staying in Tokyo...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
