Chalet was clean and tidy as was the campsite, large supermarket within walking distance perfect location for visiting the area , also a few miles up the road was a small free car ferry over to Germany . Pools we're great only issue was we arrived on 31st August and outside pool was open next day all shut down even though the weather was great would have loved to have used it more but indoor pool was still open and we used it every evening. Kids loved spotting the red squirrels around the campsite.

Camping Le Ried is not one of those megacampings with endless amenities for those who need to be kept amused all the time. A tiny pool, a simple restaurant, hardly any stuff for kids... And for us that is just fine! The caravans are nice and spacious, the emplacements large and shaded, and certainly not as crammed together as we have seen in areas like the Dordogne. A lovely spot for a quiet stay, very strategically located in the middle of the Alsace, just half an hour from Strasbourg, Freiburg and Colmar. We took many trips, even to Switzerland and it was all within very easy reach. Big extra: a supermarket with cheap petrol on the doorstep. People who complain about how simple this camping is should have informed themselves prior. We did, we knew what ro expect and we had a lovely week that exceeded expectations. Staff are very kind and helpful and the checkout was wonderfully hassle-free compared to our hellish experience in the Dordogne. A great place to stay for couples and people who like to do lots of sightseeing.

Having read previous reviews we were nervous what to expect for our second destination on our summer trip. We booked French side with the plan to visit Germany daily due to cost. We went expecting good basic accommodation at a fabulous summer holiday price. Driving through the beautiful Alsace villages soon warmed us. The site was exactly as would expect a french site to be, very clean and welcoming. The accommodation was spotless and the few end of season wear and tear were soon resolved by the on site maintenance, nothing was to much trouble. The tohapi staff were really helpful. There’s a bread shop, bar/restaurant, pools, games areas and what seemed a packed entertainment schedule for all ages. Being next to a supermarket was great and top tip for those going to Europa Park is buy your tickets from the Super U as you get 10 euros per adult pass to spend in store, we saved 40 euros! The location was fantastic and to be honest we were gutted we didn’t spend whole 2 weeks there as there’s so much to do both French and Germany side. The free car ferry to Germany was brilliant and we were pleasantly surprised how cheap for food, drinks, petrol and attractions Germany was. Took 2 kids 16 & 12 and both loved the site, in fact they enjoyed it more than the all singing top of the range site we’d stayed in the week before. They loved making new French friends. I would and have recommended this site as a great find for the area and excellent value for money for a summer family holiday. Yes some of the vans are older but as you walk round they are obviously upgrading them and to be honest even the older ones have all the mod cons such as fridge freezers and good sized shower rooms and spotlessly cleaned. I would take your own bbq as you have to rent this. All in all one of the best holidays in a long while and we will not hesitate to go back and explore more of the beautiful area.

Very well maintained and with all amenities camping. Clean and comfortable mobile homes, very kind staff, excellent location - close to Europa park, Strasbourg, or just for a walk around Rhine. The only thing that can me remarked is that there are lot of mosquitoes and there are no screens on the windows and doors of the mobile homes. This way they cannot be ventilated well. Everything else was perfect and we had a very relaxing 3 days holiday.

This is a a great base if you want to be within easy driving distance of Europa Park (via the cross river ferry) and Colmar, Freiburg and The Wine Route drive.
Otherwise don't bother.
Onsite: There is little to do on site, two small pools: one indoor and one outdoor. All other facilities are outdoors, two table tennis tables, a boules area, a tiny basketball/soccer area and a tiny playground. Large potholes onsite, load of gravel was delivered during our stay to fill the larger ones. Washing machines were out of service during our stay.
Reception: Only open from 9-12am and 3-6pm. Late arrivals will find there envelopes containing their keys taped to the noticeboard outside reception. We found the staff unhelpful when trying to replace a dust covered blanket.
Mobile home: Good size, with ac, however no kettle, so had to boil water on the gas hob. TV reception is poor and kept lagging, no free wifi it's €6 per day per device and connection isn't guaranteed.
Restaurant: Overpriced and unappetising, one burger was red in the middle, sent it back, it was marginally more cooked, waiting staff didn't seem to understand our complaint.
Evening entertainment, didn't bother, we could hear it all clearly from the mobile, mainly karaoke, a hypnotist and a foam party.

Positives: it's next to an big Super U (closed all day Sunday) which thankfully has the outdoor washing machines and dryers.

Lovely site but don't go here full of work people and vans. Opposite us 3 of 4 caravans filled with work vans/ people leave before 6am doors banging etc. Then talking loudly all evening. 7 males to a caravan trying to out talk each other. In the week we were here spotted at least 8 works /vans companies in our row.

We booked a lodge with Canvas - not realising that it would be supplied by Tohapi.

The offered lodge was rejected due to rotten timbers and exposed screws. There was quite a stand off and I resorted to phoning Canvas who didn't seem to be able to do much quickly. Eventually they swapped my key for a lodge next door and some poor French couple got our rotten lodge.

Cooking is inadequate. We have always enjoyed four ring burners with Canvas properties and this had just two - in a lodge that supposedly sleeps up to six!

There are two swimming pools but the site has outgrown them and our girls came back quickly saying they were overcrowded and didn't feel clean. Normally they live in the pools.

The view to the side of the lodge was of a derelict caravan. Our girls wondered if there was someone dead in there.

We stayed a few nights in April - maybe it's better in high season.. We booked a mobile home directly with the site Tohapi.. It was clean enough but just felt really damp and smelled stale.. The staff gave us another after first night and it was better.
The location is great for going to Europa Park or Colmar or Strasbourg etc but we didn't really like the site, pool is really small and old, not much in way of chairs, no lockers or changing facilities. The bar / resto was ok but not great or really cheap and again, old. The playground next to the bar is good for the kids but was nothing else to do onsite.
No onsite shop but it's literally adjacent to a fairly big SuperU so you can do all of your shopping there.

We just used it as a base for visiting other places and its fine for that but would not stay just there.

Great week here after a hiccup on check in. Site is peaceful and rustic without frills, which we like. Pool small but deserted early June so didn’t matter as always loads of sun beds free. Bar food tasty with small but useful amount of choice and waitress lovely (quick service and very friendly).

Good points:
Brilliant cycling - went out on road bike every day and there’s leisure bikes to hire for pottering around the endless lanes
Bar and restaurant area simple but good
Quiet and rural
Great base for sightseeing
Mobile home adequately equipped and clean
Super U on the doorstep although shut Sunday
In our stay it was mostly retired French couples staying so quiet
Good English at reception
Very few options locally for eating out

Not so good points
Mobile home was ageing so a few things not working well, such as blinds and doors closing. No oven.
Some pitches better than others and on arrival we were allocated the worst one on the site in my view, in a corner without trees and backing onto Super U and industrial units - I could have cried and was prepared to call canvas holidays and make a fuss or refuse to stay. Went back to reception and was given keys to 3 other units on site to choose from, which luckily got us a better pitch in the trees. Two of the other options we looked at smelt very damp and musty. Our 6 berth 3 bed was great for 2, where’s the 2 beds was saw in would have been very cramped.
The two French retired couples sharing next door to us were up at 7 each morning, sometimes earlier, and having a loud 2 hour breakfast before going out for the day. No lie ins for us and by the end of the week it was driving us mad! Everyone else around us was quiet and considerate. If we’d understood enough French we’d know all the intimate details of their lives! Not the site’s fault but shows how thin the walls of the mobile homes are.
Some items in our kitchen inventory missing on arrival and weren’t replaced, even though we asked - in particular a bread knife - managed without and didn’t chase it up.

We would go back as we love rural rustic France away from English influence and holidayers, but others might be disappointed. Get a guarantee of pitch type at time if booking as there are a few that definitely aren’t that charming!
