We spent about a week here in early July last year. We had sold our home in Calgary and were waiting for our home in Nanton to be finished. We have driven by this campground many times in the past, while driving through the Town of Nanton, and never thought that it would be our home for a short while. It looks inviting enough when you see it from the highway and in truth, was even better than I thought it would be. There are lots of spaces between the campsites and indeed, while we were here, not a lot of campers. This facility is set in a large, mostly treed area, bordered on the one side by Mosquito Creek, and the other side by the countryside. The campground is well run, it is kept clean and orderly. I don't believe there are any hookups available, but there are clean restrooms with coin operated showers, an important item. There is good potable water available, taps amply spaced throughout the campground. There is a nicely equipped playground. The campground is located just off of Highway 2, which runs through Nanton, but the road noise is very minimal. Every Wednesday evening during the summer, there is an "open mike" stage event in the campground, sponsored by the local Mosquito Music. This event focuses on local talent or whomever wants to get up on a stage and showcase their "talent". The location is close to the town, also giving one a chance to participate in all the good things available here. Close by, to the east are the rodeo grounds. There is a rodeo held quite regularly here in the summer and of course, a bit further east is the 18 hole Nanton Golf Course. After a game of golf, you can get a good meal at its well-recommended restaurant, Mulligan's.
Nanton is known for many things, The Bomber Museum, the Grain Elevator museum, the Candy Store, its many fine shops and antique stores, grocery store and it also has an "out of proportion" number of fine restaurants in relation to population size to enjoy. The list goes on. And if just being here isn't enough, it is at the gateway to many natural splendours, Chain Lakes, Kananaskis Country, the Porcupine Hills, Skyline Trail and is also close to a lot reservoirs where you can wet a fishing line.
I probably left some things out, but I think you get the picture. We are lucky to live in Nanton, so probably no more camping at the campground for us, but there are enough reasons here to encourage anybody that a visit to Nanton is in order and that making the Nanton's Lion Campground a home base, is actually, "not a bad idea"!

The campground is in excellent shape since the Lions took over in 2018, The washrooms and showers are spotless, the sites are well kept and well marked. The booking process was easy and simple. Always knew this campground could be so much more.

We stayed at this campground last weekend and we were really glad we did. However, it was only us and a few other trailers/tents in another section. Because there are no barriers (trees, shrubs) between sites, it would be very much a side by side campground. So, we were very happy campers being by ourselves in our section.

The fire pits are in desperate need of some handiwork and some are not in a designated site. Actually it's hard to see where there are designated sites!

The manager did come by and apologize as they are still cleaning things up from last season but the long weekend was only a few days away with quite a bit of work to do.

The washrooms were clean but the showers weren't working yet. Hopefully they'll have them up for the long weekend. Flush toilets and showers are $2 for 5 minutes. Looks like the dump station may have been damaged from the flood of 2013 as it wasn't available.

It appears that the town doesn't have too much money to give this campground some TLC but it was so green and pretty where our site was, it's a shame.

Mosquito Creek runs along the campground and so there were many birds to watch. It was quiet, we had a lovely view of the mountains and we walked into town to see the Nanton Bomber Command Air Museum which was fascinating. Also browsed some antique shops and the fabulous candy store.

If this campground had some work done to it and some shrubs planted between sites, it would be a lovely spot. We'll go again and hopefully, it will be as quiet as the first time!

Our family was travelling through Nanton when we began to experience problems with our motorhome. We pulled into the Nanton Lion’s Campground just hoping for a spot to put up until we could arrange to have someone look at the motorhome. The Campground Host was incredibly gracious and offered to find us a spot (notwithstanding the fact the campground was booked).

The host and another gentleman took the time to look at our motorhome and they got us back on the road that evening. We greatly appreciate the kindness they showed us. Thank you again.

This campsite could be so much more. It need considerable work. It had been rainy so the lanes were quite muddy. A baseball tournament was on so attendees were driving all over the lawns and causing a mess. Although we were expecting a lot of noise and partying, all went well. The teams were there to play hard and didn't cause an issue except the town will be spending considerable monies to return the campsite to some semblance of neatness. Showers need to be enlarged and new shower curtains purchased. No idea why this campsite isn't upgraded. Could be a great spot. Fabulous golf course and outstanding antique shopping. We would pay more for the right amenities.

Hi Sandy! I'm writing in response to your feed back about the Nanton Campground. The campground is officially under new management as the Nanton Lions Campground. We have a 25 year lease with the Town and are working hard to fund-raise to make some much needed changes, like the ones you listed. Come see us again in the future and I guarantee it'll be in better shape. See you soon! Craig Bassett Nanton Lions Secretary, Campground Committee, nantonlionscampground@gmail.com
