Highly recommended & great value for money. The room was perfect with very comfortable beds & the bathroom was spacious with all the necessary toiletries. The breakfast was ample although could have been better. Let down my fermented fruit juice & fruit way past its expiry date. We were the only people at breakfast for 3 days running & had...

Fantastic hotel! From the outside it looks amazing, but once you're through the (very imposing!) front door it just gets better. The place really has to be seen to be believed. But décor aside (I really can't do it justice!) - it's the comfort of the rooms, the quality, choice and service of breakfast/dinner, the friendly and helpful staff, and...

Spent 5 nights half board at this beautiful former Baroque Palace mid September 2016 as part of a trip for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Shown to a beautiful room (104), Ruby Red !, however, wife asked to see another, no problem says the friendly receptionist who showed us a further 2, all gorgeous - we decided to stay in the...

This is one of the most beautiful hotels I have ever seen. Wonderful rural atmosphere. My brother organised his wedding at this hotel and every one was quite impressed. Both facilities and food were excellent. It has a great value. Free parking.

From the moment we rode our bicycles to the front of this beautifully restored baroque palace, we knew we were in for a treat. The interior restorations are colorful and a little edgy. The grand staircase central hall is worth stopping to see even if you aren't staying here. The room is spacious, tastefully furnished, comfortable and the balconies offer...

This hotel is part of the Abba chain, which we've not used before. It's situated on the outskirts of Villacarriedo, a small town about 70 miles from Bilbao so it was an ideal first-night stop after our ferry crossing. (It's much closer to Santander - about 23 miles.) The hotel is a converted early-eighteenth century palacio. It looks really impressive...

Amazing building and rooms. The restoration has been sympathetic and the bedrooms have great character as well as comfort. The restaurant was good (we ate there on 6 nights) and although the menu del dla (18 euros including wine) was a little repetitive the exceptional dining room team arranged changes to ensure variety each night. As we didn't want to...

Nice room with views of the surrounding countryside. Comfortable will all you would expect. The building itself is worth a look and has been tastefully restored except for the top floor where we were that is painted in a kind of odd picasso style. We didn't try the restaurant or bar and there is a small splash pool but other...

Lovely restored real baroque palace. Full impression of 18 century atmosphere, in nice rural landscape, far from city noise. Spacious clean room with baroque-style furniture. Good cousin, friendly stuff.

A beautiful old palace restored in a quirky way. The restaurant is not up to much but is pretty good value if you are too tired to drive anywhere else. The joy of this area is trips up in the mountains which offer amazing views. The splash pool was great for the kids and is rare in hotels in this...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Built in the Baroque style of the 18th century, this former palace is surrounded by the wonderful countryside of the Carriedo Valley, in the green region of Cantabria. The Palacio de Soñanes was originally built in 1719 by a local noble family. To this day it retains many original stone features which add to the charm of this luxury hotel. You can also climb the enchanting Renaissance staircase at the building’s heart. Dine at the hotel’s splendid à la carte restaurant, Iniro, where you can choose from delicious local dishes and more modern cuisine. Accompany your meal with one of the 175 varieties of wine available in the palace’s own cellar. The decor in each of the guest rooms matches the palace’s traditional elegance. Rich fabrics blend with exquisite carpets and luxury, antique-style furnishings – ideal for a romantic getaway. ... more   less
