This is a rustic-style family-owned hotel. The closest and most visited quetzal-watching spot is a 10-min ride from it. I will review the room with mountain view in the second level. The room has actually 2 different small "bedrooms" with the bath in between. San Gerardo is cold and the hotel provided us with a tiny heater enough to warm...

San Gerardo de Dota is a wonderful, out-of-the way valley with so much to offer. We stayed at El Manantial Lodge for a 4-day retreat. Service was terrific, the spacious and well-lit meeting room had a beautiful view all around, the food was delicious and plentiful. It's a rustic and spic-and-span lodge, kind of like an old-fashioned farmhouse. Great place...

Rustic and clean mountain lodge style hotel as described by other reviews this is in a great location and much more 'real' than other SGdD hotels. The lady who runs/manages it did not speak English but was so warm and lovely and we managed okay. Quetzals eat the fruit off the trees in the field opposite the property so are...

The lodge is well-located in a beautiful section of the valley, close to several excellent hiking trails, and with beautiful unspoiled views. There is a gorgeous garden and porch that you can have meals on, including breakfast, while you watch the sun rise or the clouds roll in. There are swarms of hummingbirds and other interesting insects and birds. The...

The place is very special. Very beautiful. Everything in wood. They have different tours to offer. Service is good. Food is great. Possible hiking to some beautiful waterfalls. The Quetzal Tour was great. Our guide had so much to explain us about these birds... he even brought us to two places in order to see quetzales. In the first place...

Rooms are rustic but very clean. El Manantial is a very peaceful place. Good price and good breakfast. Close to beautiful walks. I enjoyed my stay. The morning was cold. You will need a jacket but it warms up by mid morning.

The road to the property is very narrow and steep. Pretty grounds, with a wonderful view from the deck and dining area. Meals were good. Rooms are very rustic, and shower floor very slick. I was not able to find a comfortable chair anywhere.

The location is great: one of the lodges closest to many of the area attractions. The staff was very friendly and helpful (although at times they seemed overworked, performing multiple functions and doing very long hours). One suggestion is to fix the broken window tiles in the rooms to prevent bugs from getting in.

Peace! That's what you find here, great price and nice simple place. Birds humming around and the mountain right next to you. If you like adventure, nature and hiking this is your area and this hotel will be great for your trip. Some options are available like horseback riding and canopy and waterfalls. Simple menu at the restaurant will do...

nicely secluded place with quetzals literally behind your windows every day. Issac who run this place is fantastic host and great guy. We spent 4 days there and it was just enough to get unwind from London and prepare ourselves for Corcovado- next stop! highly recommended place!
