We felt like a coffee as we drove toward the Hotel Savegre and decided to stop at the Paraiso de Quetzal. What a great surprise! Next time we will stay here and not travel all the way down to the Hotel Savegre. Other Tico friends told us to stay here on our next visit. The hummingbirds that came to the...

What a special little place this was. Quaint, oozing charm and managed with typical costa rican hospitality. Food was good, the typical tico breakfast was delicious and a great way to start off the day. So quiet and peaceful, so many birds up close and the icing on the cake having the opportunity to photogaph and enjoy seeing both male...

I operate a bird photography tour company and we visit this lodge every year. It is always the highlight of the trip for our groups. Jorge and his staff go out of their way to make sure that all of your needs are taken care of. The food is excellent, the lodging is clean, rustic and comfortable and the views...

One of our favourites of the trip! We stayed two nights. The lodge is located at a high elevation of 2,700 meters and the windows have fanstatic views of the forest. It is about 2.5 hours from the airport. Cabinas are rustic but comfortable. Morning and evening can get very cold and portable heaters are provided. This is the place...

Management very polite and attentive, food is also very good. Relaxing environment in the mountains, where hummingbirds are not afraid of people. Cabins are in different locations and altitudes, very private areas of the forest providing an unique experience for families, couples and groups of friends. Tours to see quetzals are also once in a life time experience for bird...

Paraiso Quetzal Lodge combines perfectly the following words: comfort, gourmet coffee and food, cloud forest view and knowledge birding guides. During our first morning Jorge Serrano (Owner and Guide) took us deep into the forest in search for the Resplendent Quetzal, he found it easily. We were able to see a matured long feathered male Quetzal swallowing the fruits from...

This somewhat quirky small lodge was a birder's paradise. Great variety of habitats for different birds, with interesting, well-maintained trails. Most of the people staying were serious birders and/or photographers, traveling solo or in small groups. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful with everything from travel logistics to the wildlife. Food was excellent. The bungalows were rustic but adorable, with...

I was on a bird photography tour that included Paraiso Quetzal. Clean, comfortable cabin, very good local food and service. Beautiful birds, especially the Fiery Throated Hummingbird, such a treat. the hummingbirds will actually perch on your finger. We took morning tours to private farms to see the Quetzal and we did!!
