We really enjoyed our stay here! The welcome was warm and we received birding tips right away. And they paid off: we saw the Quetzal and Emerald Toucanets. The surroundings are gorgeous. We had a beautiful view over the valley. Many birds, every day a flock of flycatchers who were amusing to watch. The lodge is basic, but offers all...

My wife and I arrived JAN 27 and we were jaw dropped with the views of the gorgeous cloud forest, the mountains and mist floating through the valleys. The private transfer through Biotrans (CRTTE) took us about two and a half hours to drive up along the interamericana highway to get to San Gerardo De Dota from Alajuela. When we...

Our contact, Lilianna, walked us down to our cabin and my jaw dropped. The view from our veranda was amazing: forested slopes off to each side, cumulus clouds far below. It was hard to unpack because we immediately started seeing birds. The cabin itself was rustic splendor, and as outdoors people it suited us perfectly. Lilianna's husband, Alex, took us...

I owe it to a lot of people on Tripadvisor who provided me with useful and accurate information for this trip. So here is my trip report. I arrived in Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) in Alajuela at past midnight. All was good except that my luggage did not arrive with me. Since i took a connecting flight from the US,...

After backpacking through Central America we got upgraded to the nice cabin with a couch and full kitchen overlooking the cloud forest. Perfect spot if you want to visit the cloud forest and not be in a super touristy place. If you are looking for a cozy cabin close to good hikes and birding but not looking for a 5...

Spent three nights here as a couple in May and loved it. We had been backpacking around Central America for 2.5 months and this was definitely one of our favorite places. Had one of the bigger cabins and it was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It isn't luxurious but a cozy private cabin in a peaceful area with...

The past two years I have stayed at Quetzal Valley Cabins in San Gerardo de Dota. As a birdwatcher I could not ask for better accommodations. Outside my door I could easily find almost every highland specialty I wanted. Flame-colored Tanagers and Flame-throated Warblers, Large-footed, Yellow-thighed, and Peg-billed Finches, Black-billed and Ruddy-capped Nightingale Thrushes, and Sooty Robins are only a...

We stayed at Quetzal Valley Cabins for two nights at the end of January. Everybody we met there, Miriam, Liliana, Alex and Nelson were very friendly and helpful, though communication was not always easy as our Spanish is weak/non-existent and though Liliana’s English is reasonable and Alex’s is very good, Miriam and Nelson speak no English. We had the cabin...
