This is a beautiful hotel, natural reserve & spa situated at the bottom of the valley in the cloud forest. The cooler temperatures were a welcome relief after the sweltering humidity of the rainforest. Birds and flowers everywhere. Coffee in the room was a nice treat.

We stayed 2 nights in this paradise at the bottom of the valley (very steep and windy drive to get there!!!) surrounded by people with camera lenses bigger than me! Even if you are not a birder this is a fantastic location for hiking, relaxing and wildlife, as the hotel has several great hiking trails in the beautiful woods (steep...

This should be a review for OAT but I will keep it to the hotel. What a gorgeous setting this place is. Flowers and hummingbirds galore. They also have a spa on the grounds with very reasonable prices. The food is good and plentiful. There was even hummus last night which was great. Highly recommend this place. The road to...

Our tour booked us into this resort. I was totally IMPRESSED with the food and bird guide. Melvin Fernandez was our guide. Recommend him to anyone. The room was COLD. Eco lodge has no heat but does have a small ceramic heater to plug in. Chiggars were a problem. Got lots of bites. Room needs a desk or table and...

Spent a few days here; the room was lovely and inviting, the bed comfortable. The Chef made some wonderful meals, all our meals were from the buffet. We had fabulous views of the Resplendent Quetzal on two of our walks, and the birding is truly incredible. I'd love to go back!

There are several great bird guides. Marino Chacon, Melvin Fernandez and Raul Fernandez. All can be contacted through the hotel. I know any of these men will do a good job for you.

As other readers have said there is not pool but the Spa has a great 2 great hot tubs. The Spa treatments are excellent. There is not charge for the hot tubs if you get a massage. The Aromatouch with their essential oils. As far as the airport is concerned you can rent a car or hire a private driver to take you to the Saverge Valley. The history there is incredible and the bird watching is worth the trip. We have been there 5 times and are never disappointed. If you want to hire a driver ask the hotel staff for contact names.

The rainy season in Costa Rica is strange. In the morning is very hot and normally it rains after noon (at least in San José). Sometimes it rains hard and sometimes it is a short rain.

But near the beaches could be a little bit different. So it is hard for me to tell. The good thing is that still in rainy season, Guanacaste is hot. So I do prefer going to Guanacaste in rainy season, because it is not that hot and it is also cheaper (low season). Now you should be careful with rivers and water activities because they can grow a lot due to rains, so for example tubing could be a little bit tricky/dangerous.

And of course, you could have bad luck and it could be raining all day long with lightning.

And finally, lately the weather is crazy. For example we had rains in the dry season and last year the rainy season was not that rainy (it rains mostly in October).

Let me know if there is any other question I could help you with!

4x4 is not necessary. Road is unpaved and steep, but good.
