The final lodge on our parrot birding tour. Wonderful journey up and then down the well made road into a beautiful oak forest wooded valley. Great birds everywhere. The pair of Quetzal whom are on the payroll performed and after some time the sulphur winged parakeets showed in the apple orchard. Half price happy hour was a nice attraction and...

As others have said the road down to Savegre Lodge is not for the un-experienced or faint-hearted driver - narrow winding and full size buses go up and down it! However, when we got there, the room was comfortable, the buffet food was OK (certainly not the 4 stars they have attached to their name), but the birds were great....

We stayed at Savegre for two nights and were blessed with close sightings of Resplendent Quetzals each day. The property is located as others have written in a deep, long valley, which is difficult to get to but worth every hairpin turn! Many trails in the area but at 7800 feet above sea level, make sure you are in good...

This hotel is set deep within a deep and steep sided valley within the cloud forest zone. It is difficult to get to via a narrow un-surfaced windy road. Although there are individual houses around - mainly San Jose holiday homes - the valley is tranquil, set in the mountains where the air is pure and clear. It is a...

This location is all about birding. If you want to see a Quetzal, this is your place. Really nice cabin in an isolated mountain location. Meals are buffet and adequate, but not fine dining. You can sit at a private table or with a group. Hummingbird feeder and fruit stations attract a wide variety of birds. There are trails for...

Winding roads and cloudy skies lead to this peaceful valley full of beautiful birds. Well worth the trip to have good food, nice drink and lovely walks. Great room with a fireplace that warmed a cold night. The quetzal and toucans were as inviting as the people.

This was our first stop on our trip around Costa Rica, and we really enjoyed the area, the Hotel and the buffet meals. We did a near by hike that had a fabulous view, hiked down the waterfalls, make sure to the second waterfall, it is great, and saw lots of hummingbirds a few quetzals. My kids were a little...

As you descend the hill into the valley of San Gerardo de Dota, it feels so isolated that there could be dinosaurs hidden in this valley. Well we did not see any dinosaurs, but we did see quetzal and toucanette thanks to our excellent guide from the Savegre Hotel, who made sure that we not only saw these birds, but...

Reasonable rooms, great trails, especially the one to the waterfall. Pretty gardens, but disappointing food. We realised on day 2 that we could have a bar snack for lunch, so did not have to have 2 virtually identical 3-course meals each day. The early morning trip to find quetzals was great; we spotted lots, though the guide said he had...

This was the last stop on our group tour - and the best accommodation. Nice big rooms in well-spaced-out lodges and good plentiful food, from buffet. Lounge bar with efficient bartender and a feature open fire (it was cold up at that altitude!). Feeders in the grounds attracted hummingbirds, woodpecker, silky flycatcher - also in the grounds saw a resplendant...
