Had an overnight stay in one of the castle rock suites (room 36) which could be in the middle of nowhere (poor overnight lighting outside, be careful, slippy paths) for hubby's birthday. The guest rooms are lovely as are the public spaces, and the staff is friendly ,competent and attentive. The food is very good and cocktails in the beautiful library before dinner in front of the gorgeous fireplace is a very nice option. We booked this hotel a year ago and visited it for the first time Sept' 15. We had same negative experience with the communicating. They have a deal package; wedding for two. Just beautiful! I felt like a lady laird for the night! If you get a chance, just have a quiet sit in the library. I'm sure my library experience could have been improved if it was winter and the fires were lit. So peaceful.

Invited to have 3 course dinner by friends. Dining area lovely, but service was very poor. Lengthy periods between courses. Caesar salad the worst I have ever tasted - limp lettuce and slivers of ?fish??? No chicken olives, croutons or parmesan burger ok but still waiting for condiments despite asking 3 times Tiramisu tiny but nicely presented and tasted ok....

We stayd there for only one night, but that was very nice. Friendly staff, comfortable and elegant room. The breakfast was very good and rich. Tha castle is fantastic, it was possible to go everywhere.
