A work Christmas 'do' at a hotel - carvery and disco. To be frank I was not expecting much, but the hotel is beautiful inside and the food was very good. Well above expectations. The carvery was much better than the average carvery, really lovely quality, a choice of three meats. Plus there was more if it was wanted. Three...

The hotel is easily located on the main road through the town. Our reception was with a warm welcome and speedy check in. The room was well appointed with a view over the town towards fields rising on the hill a couple of hundred yards away. The public area was split up to give smaller areas in which to relax...

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night. The staff were friendly, and accommodating and the ground floor communal areas such as the bar, reception and restaurant were beautifully decorated. The food was exceptional. Our evening meals were delicious and presented to a high standard. The cooked English breakfast was by far, the best I've had in a hotel,...

A group of forty of us had lunch here today, our starters and main courses were pre-ordered, with desserts selected afterwards. The service was very efficient and the food was very enjoyable. Drinks were not cheap, especially wine by the glass. However the overall experience was good and I would certainly go back again.

Stayed here for one night. The food and service was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. The communal areas were well presented and comfortable. Breakfast was served hot and was the best we have had for a while in a hotel. We will definitely be returning.

Staff friendly helpful, busy hotel which can mean car parking is an issue and not really anywhere close by to park, wifi hit and miss which was a let down. Food tasty simple menu, if you was stopping for more than a couple of nights could get a bit boring. will visit again when in the region

Average in all aspects. Nice staff - very friendly and serviceminded, but rooms and enviroment was very average. Nothings tat sticks out. Looking at the area where it is situated its probably the only hotel within miles why competitions is little. Some refurbushing was being done when we were there so once can guess it will imporve in future. Clean...

Ilminster turned out to be one of the most friendly towns we have ever visited, typified by the reception we got at the Shrubbery Hotel. Really friendly staff, being refurbished to a very modern high standard, the Hotel became "home" for our three nights stay. The breakfast was to a very high quality, the poached eggs were so good she...

I arrived tired after a hard day at work to find the restaraunt closed at short notice due to the opening of their new conference centre. They said that they could feed me at 8.45. But not before as they were playing host to their VIP guests who were on a freebie. I requested to see the manager twice however...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our Restaurant has been completely refurbished and renovation work is well under way in our Sun Lounge and reception areas. In the coming weeks improvements will be made to the Ballroom before work gets underway in the bedrooms. While there are many decorative changes planned, those of you who have visited recently will know that the original team are still very much a part of the hotel. We hope that you will come and experience these improvements soon. Ilminster an attractive market town. The Shrubbery Hotel stands on a site previously occupied by a private house named, 'Crosses' which dated back to the 17th century. Apparently, cloth dyeing took place on the premises. The family, allegedly, made their fortune from selling hessian and jute to both sides in the American Civil War and their wealth enabled them to become major landowners and benefactors to the town.
