This was a poor experience in many respects. The Hotel was booked through SantiagoWays as part of Camino Portuguese. The 2 Km walk from Arcade to the hotel was on a busy highway and very close to fast moving heavy vehicles. We considered it to be unsafe and deterred us from visiting the town in the evening. When leaving we chose to take a taxi back to town The Hotel was very noisy with heavy traffic, bad odours in the room and the restaurant understaffed with poor service. The food was disappointing even when ordering outside the half-board menu. We would recommend avoiding this Hotel if having to walk from Arcade. The Hotel is understaffed with lengthy wait for service. English not spoken.

Even though I have stayed there for one night only, service was quite OK. Room has plenty of space, heating and TV. The sleeping area has been renewed, not the bathroom. The room was well cleaned. Breakfast was taken in the bar attached to the hotel, not buffet but we could choose between several things. Good enough just due to the bathroom.

It could have been very noisy from the main road outside but there were double glazed units on the balcony. The apartment was clean and well equipped. The receptionist was very friendly (although not speaking any English). The breakfast was basic - not self service and consisting of a cup of tea or coffee plus a croissant, with orange juice on some mornings.

I had a very basic single room but it had a t.v., and a shower and toilet in a small en suite. The hotel was well requented by locals and was a lively place. The staff were friendly and efficient. My one gripe was that there was no door separating the reception and bar area from the stairs to the rooms. Thus even on the second floor you could hear everything going on downstairs. The star of this hotel was the restaurant. Dinner was very good value - three courses - a tasty soup, a very good take on fish and chips then an apple cake. This was accompanied by a very drinkable house white and good service. In the morning they provided a simple breakfast - a cup of coffee, a lovely piece of cake and toast and jam. All was good quality and the bill for everything was remarkably cheap.

We planned to stay just one night in Hotel San Luis, it was an emergency as we could not find the holiday house we were looking for, but we stayed 3 nights; it’s a very pleasant hotel with large rooms, with a friendly atmosphere. We – 3 persons- had two clean rooms with private bathrooms, (working!) hairdryers and wifi; including breakfast, for the three of us we paid € 50,= all in per night. The Hotel is on a busy road but it’s well isolated, no excessive noise during the night. A kind family cooked and served us very good dinners with fresh fish. When we will be in the neighbourhood in the future we will surely come back to Hotel San Luis! An excellent Hotel considering the very low cost.
